But listen: mopeds are a good solution in many places across the world, taking up less road space than cars and being cheap to run. One thing they lack is load-bearing abilities, and that's what Elliot's design is supposed to fix. Taking a few design cues from the classic Vespa, it's got that huge hole in the chassis which allows you to sling narrow loads inside. There's even a DHL scooter concept in the gallery. I can't help but wonder about stability of the thing, but it's a neat bit of lateral thinking. Should it remain a concept? What do you think, guys? [Tuvie via Techeblog]

<![CDATA[ Boeing Working on Real-Life Colonial Marines Dropship ]]> The US Air Force wants a new cargo aircraft, a pressurized airplane capable of carrying 65,000 pounds for 1,500 nautical miles without refueling. They call it the Speed Agile Concept Demonstrator—it's supposed to travel at a minimum Mach .8 at 30,000-feet—but they may as well have called it the UD-4L Dropship, because it looks like the Colonial Marines' Cheyenne in Aliens. Boeing is going to get a mere $7.5M to work on it to get the technology ready for 2010—which doesn't mean having the airplane by then, just the pretty drawings for us to post about. [Defense Tech]

<![CDATA[ Blu_ray, the Makeup ]]> blu_ray.jpgMaking your face presentable for high definition is tough, which is why the makeup brand Cargo is carrying a "blu_ray" brand makeup—trademarked, no less—that's supposed to cover up any Cameron Diaz-level skin problems. It's unlikely that Sony will be pleased that someone's calling dibs on a brand they spent billions on building, but since this is in the makeup space, they might be SOL. We're sure Cargo's glad they don't have to make an "hd_dvd" branded makeup kit. [Sephora via Boing Boing Gadgets]

<![CDATA[ CopterBox, Cardboard Helicopter ]]> The CopterBox is a disposable air-drop box, designed to safely drop cargo from a plane. Using parachutes is more expensive, and requires that you go back at some point to pick them up. With this system you can just throw a package out and forget about it. Unless it's raining. Check out a video after the jump.

The three rotor blades spin at about 450 rpm to create lift and slow its descent. It has already been used by U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan. [DropMaster]

<![CDATA[ Walrus of Love Helps Spread the Peace ]]> Originally developed by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Walrus is a massive blimp designed to deliver up to 1,000 tons of cargo to land-locked countries with little to no trade. The 140-foot-long airship would vertically lift off and be capable of landing on ground or sea. Due to it slow speed it'd be a sitting duck if deployed during wars, but commercially it'd be able to out perform sea vessels by traveling at a faster pace and for a cheaper price, which sounds good to us.
