Also, why on Earth do you "sometimes understand" their censorship because of the large numbers of people present? That kind of thinking blows my mind - its that sort of slippery slope eroding our freedoms here.

The effect of everything here is quadrupled just because of the size of the population. Add to that the fact that most of the population is still rural and/or poor, and you could get uprisings over wrong and/or incendiary information.
Unfortunately, the CCP uses that justification to quash a lot of stuff that should NEVER be quashed. But, I'm just saying, that excuse isn't always invalid.

I'm very wary of that sort of "sometimes censorship is justified for the good of the people" thinking, because I can't see how that leads to anything other than to a very slippery slope.
