There are hundreds of thin little touchscreen dumbphones out there. Why would you get a smartphone and leave out the data part?
It would be worth more with only a data plan.
Edit: Oh and it is GSM.
12:49 PM
Only people who NEED internet all the time should have to pay for data plans...
...not people who just want to use certain features when opportunities allow. And for most of us - that's all the time we are home and work anyway.

Still I think thats a stretch. Phone companies probably shouldn't "mandate" anything but thats a whole 'nother argument. You want a data plan with a smartphone because thats the whole idea behind it. While you're out and about. While you're not at home or work. If thats not what you're using it for you should really be looking at another phone.

The article is wrong. They just took it out of the tips feed and didn't do a very good job of replicating the real story (I mean they didn't even get the name right).
Its just another android phone from motorola.
We know for sure its GSM because its UTMS/HSDPA. Rumor has it hitting t-mobile.

I think its silly. Get a laptop, get a netbook (heck get a zune HD or iPod touch). You want a smart phone pay the data plan.
Trying to use a smartphone like that is silly in my opinion. You want a phone for when you're on the road. You want a phone for when you're at a game. You want a phone for when you're out on the town. I've tried the wi-fi only option with a touch and its pointless.
Wi-fi is not that ubiquitous. In some ways its even harder now because of some of the security holes you have to jump through.

Do companies force data plans on people that pay full retail?
I understand forcing it on people who are getting discounts, but not forcing data on people who pay retail would make sense.

I would never get an iPod touch or Zune HD because I already have a perfectly usable MP3 player (1st gen iPod nano). I want an Internet capable device, but most importantly I want it to be a phone so I don't have to carry around multiple gadgets.
When I say I have WiFi access 95% of the time, I don't mean jumping through security holes to get the access. I actually have legit access.
Maybe it's just because I don't really use popular social networking sites/things such as facebook and twitter so I don't need to have Internet access when I'm on the road.

If you want something to look at the internet on at home or work they've had those for 30 years, they're called computers.
If you aren't using a smartphone as its intended with a data plan there are lots of other devices out there that will better serve your purposes.

Sholes = Droid
Sholes tablet = whatever they end up calling it.

I personally think it's because the effected only hear one side of the conversation from one voice pattern, so it's harder to tune it out.
Get over it.

No one does that. They feel the need to shout, probably because they're so far away from the other person. That's what annoys me. Also, people who talk on the phone when they should be doing something else (talking to the checkout person, getting married, etc.) are simply being rude and inconvenient for those around them.
Not to mention the people who don't pay attention to what they're doing when they're on a cellphone and will simply walk into you (and not even apologize after).

So far, in the consumer market, the smartphone race is between the iPhone and Android. The Pre, while fantastic, was little more than a boost to Palm. They need something way better to stay in this game. WinMo 7 is nothing but potential right now, but we'll have to wait to see how that goes.
Nokia, however, has the resources, the history, and the name to push a phone product. If they can pull together a solid piece of software, they have a lot more going for them. The question is, will it be too late, or just in time for the next revitalization period in cell phones? There's still time before 4G phones take off. That would be a good time to have a really groundbreaking phone.

After all its 2009 and these gadgets are supposed to make our lives easier not harder by creating social constraints as to where we should/should not use them.

"But, you broke my phone, that isn't fair. This is a amss defect and another one will do it as well."

I vowed to never buy another LG and to leave Verizon as soon as my contract was up, which I did when it ended around the time the iPhone 3g came out.
Everyone is always hoping the iPhone comes to Verizon but I am praying any carrier but them gets it. The 2 years I was with them their customer service was so bad I could really care less how great their service was. No customer should be treated with such blatant disrespect.
01:30 AM
Same deal with me, but they wanted to extend my contract just to replace with the same phon, said if Iw anted a different one I myself would choose I would have to pay full retail, though the Nokia Intrigue I have, that they sell, has incompatibilities with their network that renders it unusable.
How has AT&T treated you?
03:55 AM
With the iPhone, you just deal directly with Apple for hardware problems so that side I can't really say. Apple is pretty good with replacing a broken iPhone though. I've known several people that have shattered their screens and many have gotten it replaced for free and at the very least they'll give you another for the subsidized price (although it seems that if you politely complain enough they'll always give it to you for free)
