Wow, self righteous much? Talk where you want. Why is there this stigma that talking on a phone at a reasonable volume in a public place is a vice and frowned upon while talking with a physical person at the same volume is accepted?

I personally think it's because the effected only hear one side of the conversation from one voice pattern, so it's harder to tune it out.

    Get over it.

Thus ensuring that Nokia will continue to NOT be a force in the US Smartphone market. The battle for mobile OS dominance is over before its started. OEMs who cling to vain hopes (PALM) will suffer dearly.

@Alfisted: The advantage Nokia has over Palm, however, is that it's not putting all its hopes on one OS on one phone.

So far, in the consumer market, the smartphone race is between the iPhone and Android. The Pre, while fantastic, was little more than a boost to Palm. They need something way better to stay in this game. WinMo 7 is nothing but potential right now, but we'll have to wait to see how that goes.

Nokia, however, has the resources, the history, and the name to push a phone product. If they can pull together a solid piece of software, they have a lot more going for them. The question is, will it be too late, or just in time for the next revitalization period in cell phones? There's still time before 4G phones take off. That would be a good time to have a really groundbreaking phone.

Sure, the duct tape is fine but without the pipe cleaners to operate the auto-focus the product is clearly only reaching half it's potential.

Just go buy a Holga on Amazon. They're less than $30, and you'll have way more fun, as long as you can find a place that develops 120 film.

I have no problem with people using their phones in the restaurant, in public, in their car or any other place as long as they do so quietly (or appropriately i.e. in a loud place you can be loud, in a quiet place you should be quiet). I do so myself and have never had problems.

After all its 2009 and these gadgets are supposed to make our lives easier not harder by creating social constraints as to where we should/should not use them.

Worse than the person screaming into their phone is when they do it using the speaker-phone function. So not only to you get to enjoy the idiot near you at full volume, you also get whomever he or she is yelling at...

In reply to AT&T Comes in Last in Consumer Reports Study That Surprises No One
Not surprising, but I am surprised Verizon is number 1 when I have had recurring paperweight status inducing errors to my phone (On 4th one) for the last 3 months, and when I went to verizon they told me NOT A SINGLE SOUL has suffered this error before (Though I brought printouts from their site of people reporting it, they refused to see them) and blamed me repeatedly for the error, refused to comp my bill any for the downtime their incompatibility with the phone THEY SELL caused.

"We can replace your phone, but we'd need you to sign up for another two years and to move your upgrade date."

"But, you broke my phone, that isn't fair. This is a amss defect and another one will do it as well."

"We can replace your phone, but we'd need you to sign up for another two years and to move your upgrade date."

"... I'm going with AT&T, they'll give me a refurbed iphone for 50$ and charge me less a month anyway."

@Demonbird: the same exact thing happened with my first gen chocolate years ago. The touch buttons stopped working on 3 different phones in 3 months and each time they would bitch and moan about replacing it. The last time they didn't have any in stock and they refused to even give me a discount on a single phone, even with signing a new contract. Since I was going on vacation the next day I was forced to pay full price to replace the piece of junk LG.

I vowed to never buy another LG and to leave Verizon as soon as my contract was up, which I did when it ended around the time the iPhone 3g came out.

Everyone is always hoping the iPhone comes to Verizon but I am praying any carrier but them gets it. The 2 years I was with them their customer service was so bad I could really care less how great their service was. No customer should be treated with such blatant disrespect.

Same deal with me, but they wanted to extend my contract just to replace with the same phon, said if Iw anted a different one I myself would choose I would have to pay full retail, though the Nokia Intrigue I have, that they sell, has incompatibilities with their network that renders it unusable.

    How has AT&T treated you?

@Demonbird: I haven't run into any problems with ATT (other than shitty coverage, but I rarely can't make a call and I have decent 3G at least half the time in the Bay Area).

With the iPhone, you just deal directly with Apple for hardware problems so that side I can't really say. Apple is pretty good with replacing a broken iPhone though. I've known several people that have shattered their screens and many have gotten it replaced for free and at the very least they'll give you another for the subsidized price (although it seems that if you politely complain enough they'll always give it to you for free)

I'm still one of the few people who prefers for no one to hear any of my conversations on the phone no matter whom they are with. I rarely have a phone conversation where someone can overhear me. I typically like to go somewhere quiet but I'm probably a rare example.

Yes, no problem, I have copied your note and will be distributing it to some 35 million Californians.

And to the woman that was in line at the grocery store that put me another ten minutes behind because you couldn't get off your damn phone and handle you transaction properly... Well, while you weren't paying attention, per usual, I wiped a booger on your loaf of bread.

@Shamoononon: I shave my legs.: My own 'california person on phone' story: at Whole Foods during lunch rush, in the hot foods self serve area, a (Isreali? east European?) woman in fashionable clothes is talking into a blackberry with one hand and scooping chicken breasts and wings into a container with the other, but not very well and very slowly. I couldn't hear what the other woman said to her, but the woman on the phone freaked and basically just started shouting about how I WILL BE ON THE PHONE AS LONG AS I WANT, etc etc. She was pretty self-righteous about talking away in a public place *and* holding up other people from the space where she was at the hot bar, during lunch rush.

So, not really a phone problem, more of an attitude problem. Still!

Ever notice its never a juicy conversation that you might want to overhear...like "Mom, I am coming out of the closet" or "I just left you for your brother and he is better in bed than you". And what about all the millions of people having phone sex? They sure keep those conversations private, the selfish bastards.
