    Plastic huh? It'll be a twisted hunk of slag in no time. Sitting in my 3rd plastic-supports chair in 5 years. They just don't hold up. And as somebody else stated, scuff marks and coffee stains will ruin this thing in no time.

    @DoomGaZer: My Aeron looks like the day I bought it (4 years ago). Except my cat has a newfound interest in sharpening his claws on the back support mesh. F@%king little bastard.

    @johnnyabnormal: Try some regualr scotch tape, folded over on itself as a loop. Cats seem to hate that. I sometimes putt some extra fabric on claw prone areas to take the damage, and replace them when they get too clawed up(the fabric, not the cats).

    @Git Em SteveDave loves this guy-->: Most of the time this cat is just doing it because he likes to be chased. He is way too smart and used to climb up on shelves to knock shit off and break things for attention. Since you gave me the tape tip, here's a quick and effective way you can keep cats off things:


    1) Set up some speakers on what they are not to be jumping on.

    2) Connect the speakers to an airport extreme so you can send audio wirelessly via iTunes to the stereo.

    3) Next time you hear the cat jump on said object, blast the cat with super loud SFX samples of thunder, explosions, dogs barking, shotgun blasts, etc.


    Problem solved.


    If you're not around to audio blast the cat, you can rig a cheap motion detector controlling the stereo's amp and a iPod looping the undesirable sounds.

    @johnnyabnormal: Mine do the same thing to try and get me to go upstairs to feed them. If they weren't so cute, and if I haven't had them since they were one day old, I would have killed them by now.

    I can't be the only person who thinks the Aeron is uncomfortable as hell. That front edge just dug into my legs the whole time I was trying one... I'm pretty happy with a different Herman Miller chair -- the Ambi.


    As for the appearance of the chair, I'm pretty sure all of the Herman Miller chairs have a multitude of color and fabric options.

    @Narual: Maybe you were sitting in one that either wasn't the right size or was poorly adjusted? Sounds like the height or tilt was off.

    @johnnyabnormal: The Air Force (aka guy I replaced) bought me a Aeron. It was the worst, most uncomfortable chair I ever sat it. I gave it to one of my NCOs who loves it. I'm just fine with my cushy, reasonably priced leather chair.

    @ACoBildo: I'm glad that mine has worked out for me. Got it pretty cheap ($500)...it was a tax write-off & sometimes I pull crazy hours sitting for 18 hours in a row. I'm totally open to new chairs/designs, but this has worked pretty good so far.

    First of all, there's no way my office manager will approve that expense.


    Second of all, that is highly stainable fabric. Looks pretty in pictures but in real life, it has coffee stains, crumbs embedded in the mesh, and scuff marks on the leading edges of the arms.

    @Eric 'Vote 4 Me' Alder: Actually I think it's the opposite. We're willing to spend good money for an office chair, but keep waiting because they either work well and look ugly or look good but kill your back. For the right money, you would think I could get both!


    So instead I'm sitting in a chair that looks okay and works fine.
