    Well congrats to him. I just cheated and looked it up online. I can do it in a minute and 20 seconds, but I know my victory is hollow. If I met this guy in a bar, I would buy him a beer.

    And she married him anyways. I guess she was thinking he wouldn't bother her much for sex or cheat as long as his hands were occupied by that stupid cube...

    This seems like it would be used as one of those "stories of triumph" that the networks always attach to an olymic athlete.

    Mark Spitzer: Against All Odds: world class athlete who hid in shame that he could not solve the cube, but last week ladies and gentlemen, he defeated his demon.

    Erno Rubik must be laughing his ass off right now. Instead of brushing his teeth, he spent most of his adult life trying to solve a stupid puzzle. Hilarious.

    Well, it would be were it not for the fact that I had to Google the solution to it myself, or I might have done the same thing. Can someone please get an internet connection out to Portchester, pronto?

    @Monty: have you dedicated any portion of your life to anything at all?

    On one hand it is kind of sad, but on the other I'm pretty happy for this complete stranger.

    After looking at a rubiks cube and being told what to do, I gave up in record time.

    @madog: rubik I think, would be proud that his cube is still being sold by the millions to this very day. While I'm sure no one has spent nearly this long solving it once, think of all the people that have spent the same amount of time dedicating their lives to the hobby in general?

    Let me see your lifelong impact on society and then you can judge.

    @DeusExMach: I don't know what you mean there, but my whole point is basically that no matter how stupid or ridiculous something is to one person, its' a life-long endeavor of another. That goes for pretty much anything, even if your in the Special Olympics and not a completely insensitive prick.

    Some advice for the younger generation, if you're going to be a smartass, a strip club isn't a place to do it. Asking a stripper with a flat chest, "are those real," isn't the best of ideas, especially if she's dating one of the bouncers. You can expect to be tossed out, and quickly.

    @Ben Zvan: I would argue they would be wrong (technically). IMO, cheating would be using one of the online programs that show you the steps to solve it based on your specific cube and it's color positions. The instructions simply show you how to flip pieces into different positions to get them in the correct spots.

    @The Magnificen7:

    actually the 7x7x7 isn't that bad...

    i've done a 3x3, 4x4, and a megaminx (dodecahedron, almost like solving multiple 3x3 at once, not as hard as it seems).

    to do the 7x7, you need to learn how to do the 5x5.. the algorithms won't change much (i believe) and it'll be done easily...

    i only own a 3x3... may look into a 4x4 and a megaminx, but it's really low on my list of priorities. once i hit the sub-30 time bracket i was content and now only pick it up as a stress reliever... rubik's cubes are fun.
