@Drew Clinkenbeard: It's the Santa hat. It's at least christian, could be catholic. I usually go by the rule of thumb, but in this case I'll go by the rule of JFK and say catholic.

sorry about the zombie post...I meant to type christian (hence the christ in christmas) but failed miserably.

all religion is a blur to me in any event. I know I'm going to hell, but at least I can do so without any contracts or early termination fees to a specific belief.

PS- now that SteveDave mentioned MJH, did anyone else beside me have a crush on her back in the days of "Clarissa Explains It All"?

@Alessandro DeCredico: The santa hat, Xmas tree with lights on it, and pretty much everything about yuletide originates from ancient Scandinavian culture and has nothing whatsoever to do with Christianity.

The priests never managed to stop the Scandinavians from celebrating their (very popular) heathen festivals, so they figured that "if you cant beat em join em", and simply incorporated it wholesale into "official Christianity."
