It's funny how in years to come, this moment will be one of those times when people will look back and remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they learned the final day of Circuit City's liquidation sale had come to an end. It's sad, and yet at the same time, it brings us together in a way that only big box consumer electronic chains bring us together when they go out of business.
It's like when one my parents mentions The Wiz, or Crazy Eddie, and then they get all quiet and sad. I never really understood that... until today. :(
@Penguins-R-Us: I was crashing into an event horizon at just under the speed of light. My body was being ripped to shreds by gravity waves so intense, my flesh was vaporizing into a fountain of subatomic particles as I glanced at my netbook. I'll never forget the Giz headline as my face exploded into a stream of quarks: "Circuit City Shuts Doors For Good" or something along those lines.
I hear you brother.
We each have our own private memories, and the very personal way we deal with this kind of tragedy when, in an instant, nothing will ever be the same.
I honestly don't understand how anyone could read Gizmodo and shop at any brick and mortar store.
How can you see one dealzmodo and then go into Best Buy, Frys, Apple, Circuit City, Staples, Office Max, office Depot, Radio Shark or WalMart and not feel like a dumbass for spending those absurd prices.
I can beat any in store price at any brick and mortar with a single google search.
@Adam Jackson: Actually the brick and mortar stores do occasionally beat the on-line retailers on niche items. And honestly if I have checked the prices on-line and happen to be in a store that has the same item for ~$5 more, fcuk it, I don't have to wait 3 days for it to get here.
I do actually do most of my tech shopping on-line, but the argument that brick and mortar stores are always a rip-off is just dumb.
@Nick Dina: I think not having Geek Squad was one of the only positive things in their favor. On the other hand, they had Firedog, which was almost as bad, though didn't have as many lawsuits.
@tande04: Lets see $14 dollars a week multiplied by 52 weeks equates to $728 dollars a year or $60.66/month. Since Bush essentially got re-elected four years ago by promising everyone $350, I'm having a small problem understanding why the disdain towards the extra monies. Oh. I forgot. "fuzzy math".
@Daren: I'd gladly pay a little bit more in taxes if it meant I didn't have to go in debt for college tuition or medical bills. Actually come to think of it, France pays an avg of 3% more in tax per citizen than us 22% to our 19% (this is overall tax not just income) and they all get to go to college for free. Then again our public school system sucks even more due to Bush's no child left behind, that 75% of kids graduating can't cut it at a good university anyways. So yea he had to make it political.
@Jay Beezy: Every now and then i find it essential to respond to idiocy like this comment and obvious socialist bozo. - Name one recession that was over come ith tax increases? - Name one private sector thriving economy where capitalism was not in full effect - France elected who to office?? Sarkozy?? And why? Thats right fool.. ailing economy and slow GDP growth. His soultion? CAPITALISM!! - What does NCLB have to do with kids not graduating? Perhaps it about time we stop passing kids who do not deserve to be passed! Although our public schools do suck I can almost guarantee you the private charter system does not. Too bad it does not follow in the Euro/Canadian socialist bull you obviously subscribe to.
@SeattleTed: When republicans give tax breaks it is patriotic, when democrats do it it is "fiscally irresponsible" and/or insufficient to make a difference...

No idea why it's spelled that way, but probably has something to do with gypsies.
