Best Buy Says Goodbye to Circuit City

Reader Sean sends in these photos taken outside his local Circuit City store in Amherst, as Best Buy's Geek Squad pay their final respects to Circuit City. And by that, I mean they bought stuff.

Sean tells us that the store was empty down to 3 carts, which meant Circuit City did the only thing they could: They sold their fixtures.

Those yellow price tags you see in the image below are how much the shelves went for, which is what the BB people were there to buy. Everything was somewhere between $75 and $250, in case you were wondering.

Goodbye Circuit City. You were a store we went to before.

Circuit City Scoreboard Shows Why They're Shutting Down

One of the guys from our Circuit City retrospective just sent us this, a scoreboard from the back room of one of their stores tallying the reasons why customers say CC sucks.

The winner by a long shot? Treated like crap. Of course.

Other good reasons: overpricing, not having things in stock (it's a liquidation, people) and not "we're morons/stupid". Not quite sure who the "we" in that last one refers to—employees or the customers.

Circuit City Looking to Close Another 150 Stores?

While Circuit City has already announced plans to close 155 stores nationwide, a reliable industry source tells us that the company is looking to close another 150 stores—with that announcement possibly coming in as little as two weeks from now. As for which stores close, it'll be a simple question of which locations remaining have the worst profitability. Black Friday looks to be a large indicator of how this whole scenario will play out. More as we get it.

It's official. Circuit City is closing 155 stores, as the Consumerist broke yesterday. They're also "reducing future store openings," but whatever, you wanna know if your local Circuit City is gone. Here's the complete list of stores slotted for obliteration.

Sony Trucks Literally Turn Around to Stop Circuit City Shipments

Circuit City took a major blow today, according to a reliable inside source, when Sony's merchandise that was being delivered to nationwide Circuit City distribution centers was stopped in transit and ordered to return to Sony "among worries that Circuit City couldn't pay for the shipments." This development means that Circuit City is not getting any Sony products replenished until they are able to convince Sony that their credit line is reliable. And with as bad as things are looking for Circuit City at the moment, that day may never come.
