I had higher hopes for the buyers of "Circuit City." As I understood it, their original plans were to literally create a city out of circuits, a futuristic city on the hill produced from recycled motherboards and memory chips. Everything in Circuit City was supposed to be made out of circuits: roads, buildings, vehicles, furniture, clothes. Even the food was supposed to be made from circuit boards ground into a powder, then hydrated into an edible paste.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for a catchy motto, but as soon as I saw a billboard promoting "Come To Circuit City, Where Everything Is Circuits!" with that happy little circuit guy holding up circuits in each hand, I knew that that's where I wanted to live. I have to say I'm more than a little disappointed it didn't catch on. Oh well, at least you can still buy some of the food samples on eBay.

I wonder why Systemax thinks it needs a better name and brand than Systemax. What's wrong with SYSTEMAX? It's not like Circuit City has a better ring to it than SYSTEMAX? Wasn't SYSTEMAX the most popular name for girls in 2005? I don't get it. SYSTEMAX. SYSTEMAX. When I was a kid I had a fish named SYSTEMAX. These guys are nuts.
A relaunch of CircuitCity.com would NOT be by the same company that just went out of business. As part of the liquidation, all assets (including name) would have been sold. The question is who owns the name now.
@VernonGalute: Dead on...I worked with CC through the liquidation. The CC name and FireDog name were auctioned off. So if/when they rise from the grave they'll just be a reincarnate and not the same company. Possibly a good thing...obviously they couldn't get it right the first time around.
@DoyleBabazoid: I hope it was bought by BestBuy, so you can still get shitty prices and service at CircuitCity.com . Then it would have a nice nostalgic quality.

They didn't even have circuits in 1949. (Yes yes, I understand that's technically inaccurate).
I bet it "re-opens" as a bunch of Google ads, a la every good domain name that you'll never be able to buy.

It was called Wards Company until 1984.
