Photos Emerge of Emirates A380 Showers: Tiny, But Luxurious

See that happy-looking lady in the pic? She's standing in an Emirates A380 in-flight shower room, details of which have emerged after we first alerted you to this airborne luxury. The "shower spas" are pretty decently kitted-out, and the aircraft carries an extra 1,100-pounds of water to allow every one of the 14 first-class passengers to have a splash. As a result, the shower only runs for five minutes, and there's a traffic-light system to let you know how the time's going. And if you're planning on trying to form a new "mile-high, in the shower" club, you'd better forget it: the showers are small, "designed for single usage." More »

Junk Guitar Class, for Wannabe DIY Electric Guitar Makers

Ah the electric guitar... every time I eat at a Hard Rock Cafe, it's these fabulous bits of rock paraphernalia that grab my attention. Fascinating: design, art, creativity in one gizmo. And yet at heart they're very simple: a plain solid body, strings, and some pickups. So very simple in fact, that a guy called Ranjit is holding a DIY junk electric guitar class at Etsy Labs in Brooklyn tomorrow. Just don't take along half a wrecked coffee table and expect to craft it into a guitar that'll make you the next Clapton: these Etsy things have "wind your own"-style pickups and just a couple of strings. SLICC Pods Are New First Class Cabins For Air Force Brass

I've never been on a trans-Atlantic aboard a military transport aircraft, but I can guess that they're not the most comfortable way to fly. So it's understandable that top-ranking Air Force brass would want something a little more amenable to resting, taking meetings, and watching Hot Shots Pt. Deux on a 37" flatscreen. That's where the Senior Leader Intransit Comfort Capsule (SLICC) comes in—a private chamber being built for Air Force officers with beds, couches, the aforementioned flatscreen and other amenities. The problem? The Air Force has been caught diverting counterterrorism funds toward big SLICC's development. More »

Singapore Airlines Flights Get iPhone/iPod Docks and 15.4-inch LCDs

Singapore Airlines is installing iPod docks and 15.4-inch widescreen LCDs in their all-Business Class Airbus A340-500 flights between NY/LA and Singapore, ensuring that we're going to be flying with them if we ever have to travel to that part of the world. Each business customer can dock their iPhone or iPod and watch their own movies on the included noise-canceling headphones—which will be interrupting when the captain wants tell you to look off to your left so you can see a drunken Superman mooning your plane. Flights from Newark with this will start May 15 (today), and August for the LA ones. Maybe now business passengers won't engage in business time whilst in the air.

Delta "Cozy Suite" Seats Make Economy Class Semi-Tolerable

It may not be as fancy as first class accommodations, but Delta's new "Cozy Suite" seats promise to make economy class seating less of a hellish, crippling nightmare. The major feature of the design is a staggered layout that increases privacy while simultaneously creating a space for weary travelers to rest their heads. It also allows passengers to enjoy 31-inches of leg room (2-inches better than the competition) and the ability to recline without disturbing the person behind them.

Bond With Your Family, Build Your Own Arcade Machine

Want to become the coolest parent ever? Turn off the computers, put down the television remote, and do a little DIY with your kids this weekend by building your own arcade machine. While you assemble the pieces, regale little Tommy or Gina with the tales of your Space Invaders past. And when they look up at you, little eyes shining, and ask why you couldn't just get an emulator, tell them they were both adopted. [IGN via Kotaku]

Vista Capable Sticker Lawsuit Becomes Class Action

Remember the lawsuit filed a little while ago against Microsoft because PCs with "Windows Vista Capable" stickers weren't actually all that Vista Capable? A federal judge just granted that suit class action status, meaning that if you bought a Vista "Capable" PC during the 2006 Holidays, you might be in store to get a little bit of cash back. More »

Did Microsoft Deceive With 'Vista Capable'?

A judge has ruled that a trial against Microsoft can proceed to decide whether they misled people with their "Vista Capable" advertising campaign. Two PC buyers have started a class action, and are arguing that they bought machines that weren't capable of running Aero, even though they were marked as "Vista Capable." More »

USB Eraser Doesn't Erase Data (Hopefully)

Sometimes the most simple shape can bring back a lot of fond memories. Remember the days of elementary school and the school supply lists? Call me a bit of a geek but I was always fond of the classic pink eraser and now it has been converted over to a more modern application in the form of a USB flash drive. The eraser flash drive is made by the folks at Outofstock (which could be a very misleading company name). The 1GB model will set you back $75. More »

Hybrid Engines Make it to 18-Wheelers

Hybrid engines aren't just for emasculating little sedans anymore. Nope, now they've found their way into big, manly vehicles such as 18-wheelers. The Kenworth T270 Class 6 hybrid-electric truck features the Paccar PS-6 diesel engine. It's got a motor/generator working with the transmission and a 340-volt battery to allow the truck to get help from electricity when traveling at speeds below 30MPH. More »

M.Class, a Brazilian escort firm, allows you to download video "interviews" of their selection of saucy, freshly waxed, Brazilian harlots straight to your iPod. Mercedes C-Class 2008: It's More Gadget-y

This new Mercedes C-Class has some tricky tech on board, such as its adaptive brakes with "hill assist," helping you out when you're on a steep hill by maintaining brake pressure after you take your foot off the brake pedal, keeping you from rolling backward. More »

United Pampers Geeks with iPod Connector and XM Radio

I admit, I don't like flying, but book me on United's new "First Suite" service and I'll literally be on cloud 9. In addition to your own 15.4-inch LCD, the service has seats that come with their own iPod connector so geeks like me can keep their player juiced on those long inter-continental flights. Once you get sick of your iPod, you can sample up to 50 XM Radio channels free of charge using the complimentary noise-canceling cans. There's even a universal power plug for your laptop. Ironically, my favorite feature has nothing to do with tech. Instead it's the seat, which transforms into a 6-foot, 6-inch bed. Finally a bed big enough for us tall folks. More »

Real First Class Flying

I just flew first class from Seattle to Dallas and it was horrible. I was upgraded during a full flight only to get drink service once (I'm actually using their horrid vocabulary) in 90-degree cabin heat. The only luxury was a seat designed for a normal human being. Next time I go first class, it will be on the United Arab Emirates. You get a luxury cubicle, full movie selection, noise-canceling headphones and lots of neat buttons. Just give me the buttons. Western Digital Settles Hard Drive Capacity Lawsuit

Take note, Apple. Western Digital is actually settling a class-action lawsuit that was filed against them. They are giving out free software to consumers who filed a lawsuit claiming the hard drives actually had less space that promised. This software is available for anyone who has purchased a Western Digital hard drive from March 22, 2001 to February 15, 2006. It isn't just some run-of-the-mill software either, the software retail value is roughly $30 per copy. More »

Verizon Slapped With Wet Noodle for Crippling Bluetooth

Verizon has been getting weasely with some of its customers in California who bought its Motorola v710 Bluetooth- capable phone on or before January 31, 2005. Preliminary approval of the settlement was granted in a California court for a class-action suit against the company because it didn't accurately tell prospective customers that its Bluetooth features weren't what they appeared to be. Verizon said the phone works with a PC but left out that part about how you can t wirelessly sync photos or contacts or any other files using Bluetooth. Small detail, Verizon. More »
