It's funny how in years to come, this moment will be one of those times when people will look back and remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they learned the final day of Circuit City's liquidation sale had come to an end. It's sad, and yet at the same time, it brings us together in a way that only big box consumer electronic chains bring us together when they go out of business.
It's like when one my parents mentions The Wiz, or Crazy Eddie, and then they get all quiet and sad. I never really understood that... until today. :(
@Penguins-R-Us: I was crashing into an event horizon at just under the speed of light. My body was being ripped to shreds by gravity waves so intense, my flesh was vaporizing into a fountain of subatomic particles as I glanced at my netbook. I'll never forget the Giz headline as my face exploded into a stream of quarks: "Circuit City Shuts Doors For Good" or something along those lines.
I hear you brother.
We each have our own private memories, and the very personal way we deal with this kind of tragedy when, in an instant, nothing will ever be the same.
Walking into a CC Store always seemed like walking into a porn theater. Dark stores, shady looking isles, never bright, never cheery, and you have to look in 12 places to find 1 cable in each department.
Pretty much, just entering the store skeeved me out so much that I'd rather buy from Best Buy, which I don't do.
I have had so many bad experiences there through the years, so many clueless sales guys, so many times I have gone in there looking for something that they didn't have. Having to pay a restocking fee to return a camcorder back in 2004... and I never went back.
Hey who remembers when the sales guys at Circuit City wore coats and ties?

Ummm, I was on Gizmodo a few days a go, bored out of *, and I saw the headline. Biggg deal...

"gypped"
No idea why it's spelled that way, but probably has something to do with gypsies.
