I can't decide how I want this Apple tablet bullshit to end. I mean if it's finally confirmed as actually being real then at least Gizmodo will actually have some news to post about it. Then again I'm already sick of it and this would mean I'd have to put up with about 50 articles a piece for pre release, release and post release (probably more). Still at least they'd contain substance which would be a step up from the current Apple tablet articles.
It'd be nice if it wasn't announced and continued in its state of non-existence. Unfortunately I doubt that would stop the constant rumour groping for any hope of this product existing (seriously 70 articles already with no product announcement). I actually think the most enjoyable outcome would be for it to be released and be terrible. That way I could watch all that magnificent build up come crashing down.
DISCLAIMER: Do not take this as an anti-Apple rant. I do not hate the idea of the Apple tablet because I hate Apple. I simply loathe it because Giz has made me sick to death of it with their constant postings of any rumour or smattering of information they can tenuously link to it.
@Odin: Yeah, but the fact that large media conglomerates like Disney, CBS and Time Warner Publishing, are on the verge of making partnership deals with Apple, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, over content to be viewed on said rumored tablet, is pretty much a confirmation that the device exists and will soon be launched.
Billion dollar conglomerates don't cut deals based on vaporware products.*
*Disclaimer: The AOL-Time Warner merger is the glaring exception. That deal, if anything, was based on future vaporware and perceived market value of AOL.
@Jimmy1:
If you actually read the previous articles you'd see that those deals were for something completely unrelated. The deals with CBS, Disney et al. are for plans to remake iTunes using the Lala model as a competitor to cable TV. You're correct in summarising that billion dollar conglomerates don't cut deals based on vaporware but woefully incorrect in assuming that those deals are for said vaporware.
The details on these talks and deals going on with various media companies are far too vague to confirm the existance of the mythical tablet. Plus given the previous articles by Giz on what was reported in the WSJ it seems more likely to be iTunes related.
In the last few days I have been compiling a twitter list of Gizmodo commenters.
Here it is so far. Hit me up with your twitter account if you want to be added to the mayhem
I bet it'll at least be i7 CPU upgrades for MBP's. ...but I'll laugh hystyrically if there's noting about the Apple tablet (Duke Nuke'em Forever Edition).
@John_001: No way on the USB 3.0 or Light Peak. Those technologies are way too new for Apple. They'll wait for competitors to make all the obvious mistakes, then come out with a very nice version for themselves.
I'm surprised that no one has posted a bitchy comment on how Gizmodo loves apple and wont stop posting stuff about the tablet that doesn't even exist yet, or similar rant.
I for one enjoy the Apple news, keep it comin guys!
@Turkieshooter:
It's only because I haven't got here yet. I'm getting horrible pissed off with these Apple tablet articles. There's about 70 articles on Giz tagged Apple tablet and so far we know the following:
1) It's rumoured from a bunch of sources.
2) These rumours are very vague and a lot of them just seem to be rehashing other rumours.
3) No information has come from a source close enough to Apple to be reputable.
4) Every smidgen of concept for it are fan mock ups.
I don't care how much Gizmodo loves Apple. I've learnt to put up with that, I hate this grasping at straws over a phantom product just because they want it to exist though.
@Odin: I think what happened with the Apple TV (which everyone KNEW was going to change everything but didn't) should have taught people this lesson already. Just in case though: ahem, attention tablet fanatics! The Apple Tablet, when released will look nothing like the mockups you have seen, will do 1/3 of everything it is rumored to do, and cost twice as much as you expect. You will still buy it, you will still justify your purchase to the death, and you will shamelessly by the upgraded model that comes out four months later.
@PN - gooapplesoft: But this one was promised to us by Gizmodo. A dead cert they said. They had pictures and everything. So I won't hold my breath for any tablet.
What? So I can see Giz articles and comment threads popping up in my News Feed as well as my Reader and constantly-open Gizmodo tab? Or so I can get into more comment discussions, only this time without the pink-text barrier-to-entry that keeps the flaming trolls out? Nah, I think Giz has enough of my life right here.
I picked up the Burton Ion Boots last year and they are phenomenal. I feel like i'm walking on clouds they are so light. I use to have Van Boa's great boots had them for about 4 years but they were really heavy. Love the boa system but Burton has a pretty sweet pull system that is faster than the Boas and I believe are better. [www.rei.com]
This year I picked up new Flow bindings "The FIVE". Will be putting them to the test at Crystal Mtn this Xmas break. Flow has made a lot of changes to their collection from when I used them about 6 years ago really looking forward to the new bindings. [www.flow.com]
If you want geeky tech and skis, nothing beats out Head. Between the intelligence skis and the chipped skis, there is some major tech in them. I am on Peak 82 skis, and I can tell you, depending on how aggressive I ski, the ski adapts to fit. Switched off twins to the Peaks to run skiercross courses.
@McMike: I was wondering just the other day about how old is too old for ski boots. My old Solomons are only 15. I guess they still have some life left!
@Dis[Con]cordian: My uncle is going on 20 years with some old K2 boots. I really see no problem with using an older boot. I personally find older boots extremely stiff, but it's up to you. And if you're looking to getting some new boots look at the previous years model. It can save you a significant amount of dough.
Now if your using 20 year old skis, I'd recommend looking for a newer pair. They have made some advances in the past couple of years with skis. My best advice again is to buy slightly used skis or last years models.
@Dis[Con]cordian: If they fit, then keep wearing them. Those old rear-entry boots never really fit right. I bought them when I was like, 19. Fit is everything.
Now, older sticks? Replace them. I replaced my old circa 1988 Fischer RC4s five years ago. BIIIIIGGG difference.
@McGowan: I was riding Burton Cartels last year. I was having issue with the Toe strap not staying in the front pushing my foot back. The strap would always slide to the top of my boot. I adjusted as much as I could to make it work but always slipped. Let me know how it works for you.
@dimsum4u: I read similar complaints with the 09 model, but I also read they fixed it for 2010. Some people with the 09 model would just buy a different toe strap to fix it. I'll let you know how they work out for me!
For the skiers out there. I just got a new pair of skis from Salomon called "N The Night". Forget the cheesy name because these freestyle skiis kick ass.
@macpatrik: Hopefully they aren't using the foam cores still. I have 5 year old Foils and althought they are still a decent ski, the don't flex quite the same and creak something awful.
@szrimaging: No, they don't use foam cores. I can't remember if they've ever used foam or when they stopped using it. Anyway, they use a composite now.
