Here's another thing to look into: how much of the Apple TV interface will be ported to the forthcoming tablet? Obviously the highly anticipated device will be touchscreen, while the Apple TV relies on a clunky remote. But it has a similar amount of screen real estate -- and it's likely that Apple will push the device as a TV and video viewer at least as much as a book reader.
In fact, one could imagine the tablet as a control device for home entertainment. An app with the functionality of the Remote app on the iPhone -- but making use of the increased real estate of the tablet. So the Apple TV would be reduced even further to a relay device, a fancy version of an Airport Express -- with most of the intelligence and interface existing on the tablet.
The tablet could be positioned as subsuming the functionality of the Apple TV. That would also give Apple an elegant way to exit from a product line which has been something of an embarrassment.
