Way back in the late 80's and early 90's, when cellphones were car phones, when you got a car phone installed, they would wire up your car with a little mic on the driver side A column and the phone would have a nice loud speaker on it too.
20 years later, why can't we have this very nice solution to handsfree talking? Is it no longer possible to have a mic mounted on the driver side A column? Why not do that, route the signal through the car radio, and have the car radio communicate with the phone via Bluetooth?
@OMG! Ponies!: Lots of cars do that. Ford Sync, for example, links to your Bluetooth phone and has a microphone in the mirror that allows you to voice-control a whole lot of functions on the phone as well as voice-control your music and nav. Acura has a Bluetooth implementation that works the same way; my dad has that installed in his car. The only downside is that it's limited to in-car use. If you want or need hands-free talking outside of the car, then you can't do that.
Of course, that gets into the whole question of talking while doing other things and whether or not that's annoying, excessive, etc. But in any case, lots of cars implement the technology in just the way you've described.
Huh? Does this stream or does it play? Streaming requires no HD. The fact that this paller has a HD means that it can play media and is hense, a media player. The question is, does it also stream from your other souces?
Wondering why the fugly form factor? They could've made the HDD load parallel to the unit instead of perpendicular to it. Just seems like it will take much more space than is needed only to display a HDD...
@justsomereportingguy: Don't see how it's easier to load than the form factor of the old NES cartridges... And the possibility of breaking INCREASES with this form factor if you bump it or it falls.
Granted it wouldn't be good if it fell with the other form factor but this current one has got to be way worse at taking a fall.
@FrankieAvalonin'_GitEmSteveDave: I believe a judge can order you to give it up if there is enough evidence just as they could order you to open your safe or provide access to other secure storage.
@UnderLoK: But if the information inside the safe was done in a code, could they compel me to translate it? I.e. I have a ledger saying who I sell "circus tickets" to.
@FrankieAvalonin'_GitEmSteveDave: I don’t know as I’m not a lawyer or anything, but I would assume you would be ordered to provide the information and depending on what the charges were I think would decide if you provided it or not.
If you out right refuse I guess you would be in contempt, but I don’t know what kind of penalty it would carry.
@UnderLoK: But I have the right not to incriminate myself with testimony. I will gladly provide the hard drive. It's up to them to recover the evidence that will incriminate me.
There was a case like this recently, but the authorities SAW the unencrypted data before putting the laptop away for evidence, and upon turning it back on to retrieve it, it was encrypted. They decided initially that he did NOT have to give up the code, but it was later appealed and the judge ruled since they had witnessed said data/images, he was already incriminated.
@Purple Monkey Dishwasher: I've never had a problem with Real Player itself, just all of the C R A P it would install and those stupid ads... RP was like a porn site it had so many ads and garbage all over the place.
It would be great for identifying music with Shazam too, although I am surprised at how sensitive the mic can be for that. It even worked for me one night when I was eating dinner at The Outback. My table was right next to the bar and I just knew there was no way it would be able to identify the song with all the ambient noise around, but it did; and I was able to tell my girlfriend "Yes Dear... that IS Melissa Etheridge."

From what I understand, as long as it's not initially decrypted, revealing your password falls under the 5th amendment.
