@Software_Goddess: same thing i was thinking....
porn stories are funny, but they get old after a while cause its all the same thing.
The battery one, that one was genious and original
The batteries story is just... cruel. It's the kind of story you laugh at a little bit when you first read it, then regret laughing because you realize how much that must have sucked for the kid.
@Duckspwn_Reborn:
They could have been preemptive and bought their batteries on Dec 23rd from their Dad, and then marked them up further and sold them to their brothers and sisters that didn't have the same foresight.
At least that's the great lesson in capitalism I see there...
I think winner is the definitely the dad that tried to assemble the trainset without the necessary skill set. Deliver the pizza to the grave site immediately.
As for the nincompoop with frosty Nikon. That guy deserves a reward as well. NO TECHNOLOGY FOR YOU. Take it all away the guy is an idiot.
"Son, You Can Play With Your Toys When I Sell You the Batteries" = not an original story (I think).
"This year, he got a multi-instrument weather station that he knew his dad had been eying, and he took out all the instructions except the ones written in French." - I have heard this story before.
When I find time I shall try to find evidence to prove this. Until then, assume that I am wrong.
Personally I think the "You Can Play With Your Toys When I Sell You the Batteries" was the worst because thats totally a dbag move on the part of the dad.
I've got to give it to batteries, if only because I know that pain.. So many Christmases spent running through the house trying to find every battery from every remote and such to get my new Awesomemobile to work right, only to come up a couple short..
Honestly, is porn a big deal anymore? Like walk out big deal? My wife and I watch it together all the time, and think nothing ill. Are we the minority?
@smartboydan is banned from Deadspin :(: I don't know if you recall it from civics class (obviously because I wasn't in your civics class) but there is a notion of privacy by the 4th (and subsequent 14th) amendments that has come to evolve from legal rulings in this country. It doesn't have to be written in the constitution for it to be a law, actually... it doesn't have to even be mentioned in an amendment. The United States Air Force isn't in or anywhere near the constitution but it is still a military force that has certain powers during times of war that overrule our "civil liberties".
That aside, if you study law there is a noticable relapse to pre-1950's interpretations (such as yours) that were around before the (liberal) Warren Court that lasted aprox. 1950-1967 (dates are a little fuzzy). That's when all of our landmark civil rights' cases were ruled on and ever since then they've been trying to balance it out again.
The Bush Administration did a hell of a job in tipping the scale too might I add.
This is why we can't have nice things, stupid lady.
I'd say they did her a damn favor. She just went from boring housewife to lesbian porn watching MILF. Her stock has gone up and incredibly, she feels Netflix's stock should suffer.
@DonLuc: Or maybe, just maybe she's in the military and it's not something she can openly talk about without losing her career. Maybe she shouldn't have entered the contest, but, if I was on Netflix, I wouldn't exactly expect it to be able to spit out my identity like that either.
@Gators15: They can't kick you out of the military for watching gay/lesiban film. The military uses the acronym SAM - Statements, Acts, and Marriages. Watching gay/lesiban movies is NOT considered either of those.
@david.kintz: Right I know, however, if this Netflix thing is able to identify her like she claims, it can be something they could use against her. Like, I know for certain in the Air Force finding homosexuals is like a witch hunt and more women are discharged from the Air Force for homosexuality than any other branch.
In suing Netflix, she's just drawing attention to herself, making it even more likely for people to figure out her identity.
Besides, it's not like straight people don't watch movies with homosexual themes. Netflix on demand has some great documentaries covering GLBT issues. If anyone ever did figure out who she was... unlikely as that is, she could just claim she wanted a different perspective. Or she could just be honest with herself and her peers and come out.
@atrus123: You're right, straight people do occasionally watch movies with homosexual themes. However if you can divine which IMDB reviews are her's, you could perhaps use the comments she made and the IMDB movies she didn't review to draw conclusions. Though to be honest that sounds like an aweful lot of effort to find out some random chic is in the closet.
@atrus123: That's what I was thinking. I'm very interested in sexuality and GLBT issues and Netflix has a lot of really great movies and documentaries on the subject, yet I don't identify as a homosexual.
I guess I don't understand how someone could figure out her identity unless they really really really wanted to (which seems unlikely unless she's made a lot of internet enemies (which is very possible, I suppose) ), and bringing attention to herself through this lawsuit just makes me think that her identity will likely come out.
The choice to be in the closet is a choice, and if she feels she has reasons to stay in the closet she has the right to do so, but to me, this seems counter-intuitive to keeping her privacy. How is she filing this lawsuit without her family finding out?
@johnwonderbread: My point was more that, now that she's bringing up the lawsuit, she's more likely to be exposed, whether she's bringing the suit anonymously or not. If news of this spreads too wide over the internet, I'm sure all the kids at 4chan will start their own investigation. Within a few weeks, her photo will become the latest meme.
Well, maybe it won't go that far, but she is opening herself up to a lot of potential scrutiny, which is pretty much what she seems to be interested in avoiding. If this lawsuit never existed, she's still be a nobody from nowheresville. Now she's Miss Anonymous (for now) suing a massive corporation.
My father in-law rented Brokeback Mountain, thinking it was about modern day cowboys. "They were hugging and wrestling, and then he spit in his hand...I didn't know what the hell was going on!"

That's could, as in, there is a potential.
In other words, there has been no harm, no foul, and no grounds for a lawsuit.

But it has been about 6 years since I took that class.
