This isn't a very original design either. There was an ancient repeating ballista that was quite similar (albeit manually cranked) that used a chain for cocking and loading.
In fact the concept has been adapted for use with modern firearms. The 30mm cannon on the AH-64 is chain driven. The Cannon on the Bradley is also a chain-gun.
@MrEvil: A modern chain gun has nothing to do with chains. It is simply an automatic weapon that is externally powered, rather than driven by the firing of its ammunition. Quite different altogether from what you are describing.
@Patrick Benjamin: There is a difference between chain gun and Gatling gun. Although Chain Gun is a trade name for a type of weapon produced by Alliant TechSystems. It does in fact refer to a single barreled weapon that is powered with a continuous loop of chain which cycles the weapon.
And shouldn't that guy be cackling maniacally or something? I didn't think he looked that crazy from the still shot, but I didn't realize he had a beard with no moustache and that crazy-grin to boot.
I think the coolest part about this is that its actually an ancient Chinese design that he gadgetized. And when I say ancient Chinese I mean like 4th century BC (wiki repeating crossbow). The same dude did some history channel special thingy.
@SewerShark: LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!: Crossbows from that era were not meant to be aimed as precisely as modern weapons. Crossbowmen were grouped into large units and trained to fire into an area, volley-style, causing hundreds or thousands of bolts to rain down in a particular place.
Did you see "300"? Same idea, albeit illustrated with bows. Archery in those days was very much "put as many arrows into the enemy ranks as possible, and forget trying to hit individual soldiers since we can't do it". A bit like modern artillery.
@Patrick Benjamin: Any medieval ranged weapon were not meant to be aimed as precisely as modern weapons because...well, they sucked...
The fact it that a single shot crossbow is more precise than the Chinese automatic, because its more stable.
The idea of the arrow rain is to maximize the area of damage and reduce reloading times. Not necessarily a compensation for the poor precision.
Alas, crossbows can be quite precise, depending of the distance. I should know, I have one.

It sure looks like the draw weight on this thing is puny. Look at the trajectory on those bolts, the drop 10 inches in about 50 feet. There have been many self cocking and loading crossbows though. The motor is new I think.
And this is why every inventor should consider getting in contact or hiring the services of a marketing/advertising professional before releasing their inventions to the world...
2009: an outbreak of swine flu leaves 1.5 billion people dead, worldwide.
2010: of the survivors of the swine flu outbreak, 87% suffer serious side-effects that include reduced mental capacity and an insatiable hunger for brains.
2011: Sean Fallon, prepared for the "zombie" outbreak with a tactical crossbow and a wind-up USB power adapter, leads the remaining unaffected humans to safety. Aunty Fallon, as he eventually known, establishes the capitol of the post-apocalyptic world, known as Gizmodotown.
