Like most people I've excavated my fair share of corpses and, hell, I'd be lying if I told you I hadn't sometimes tied strings to their ankles and wrists and made them dance around like marionettes for my own personal fun and amusement. But it always seems like some people have to take it too far :( #directv
This is the next thing in advertising. They could take this to the next level and find really recent dead celebs and pop them out of the ground implant some robotic servos have them become meat puppets for the ad industry. Then when they do not need them they just put them on ice till the next time they are needed, true cadavertising. What with all the interest in zombies heck the deader the better even if a limb falls off during the shoot. The living relatives get a healthy payout, no actors fees heck no actor nothing. Just a very cold knacker wagon and some Disney technology. #directv
Badvertising.. you know, unfortunately those are not very far from some real cases.
Sometimes it seems some companies are trying to make the worst ad ever, just to sell their fish. #directv
@MosesMonster: It's not that he was used in a manner unbefitting of Chris Farley (it wasn't a commercial with Kurt Cobain, after all.) It was the fact that, of all the ads they could have made, they chose to do one with a dead guy.
@Adam Frucci: Assuming the vast majority people thought it was tacky and gross, and somehow making the connection that it was Chris Farley being impersonated in commercials instead of it being a movie that Chris Farley was in. And, you know, posting a random video link on what is a tech blog.
@KassiaHaoe: I didn't assume the vast majority of people thought anything. I personally thought it was tacky and gross. And if you think this was a random video link on here and out of place, you clearly haven't been reading the site for very long. #directv
@InsanePenguin: But it's not like they dubbed over him. They simply showed a clip from a movie he has done. I guess I just don't see how it could be seen as poor taste. If anything, it honored him in one of the best movies he's made.
They might as well not screen his movie on television because he's dead. #directv
@Adam Frucci: um, these ads are obvious fakes but if you realize that you're far too subtle about it. People believe what you write, Frucci, and you can't expect the vast majority of people who read this site to appreciate your wry wit. #directv
Hmmm, don't think I like these and I usually am one to not care. The problem I had with the Heath Ledger spot was the fact that they seemed to bring his personal life in to his movie role and that seemed to loose it for me. Also, JFK, and a shitty job at JFK, I don't think so!!! #directv
@tande04: there's nothing in the article posted here at Giz that hints that these are fakes/spoofs/whatever.
and there, I changed it from "old" to former to clear up any ideas that people might think that I don't know Consumerist is no longer part of the Gawker family. #directv
@tande04: They're that friend in high school that you kinda lost touch with when their iconoclastic spirit just turned into a spiteful hatred of all things commercial, and they just weren't that fun to hang out with anymore. 'No Consumerist, I can't help you move that couch you found on the street into your WTO-Protest headquarters, I have work... yes, yes, I still work at that ad agency, yes, yes, I know, evil, uh-huh, hey look, I have a call on the other line...' #directv
I didn't think using a scene from a Chris Farley movie he was in was tacky. Now if they had used CGI to make him say stuff different from the scene, THAT would have been tacky. #directv
But how will I ever get my fill of local furniture store ads? Is it me or are the best/strangest local ads always furniture ads. 5 seconds on youtube proved me right.

BTW consumerist is no longer associated with gawker. Maybe a long estranged cousin site though. #directv
