I think it would be smarter to use fabric glue than sewing a 6mm sized circle on the glove. Lol geez giz these a computer/iPhone nerds not seamstresses.
iPhones meant to be good n all, but why do you need specialist gloves to use it?
Phones have worked perfectly fine with fingers n gloves alike for the past 20+years. Does it not seem a bit backward that they now don't work.
@deanbmmv: Yeah its like why do you need a special suit to walk around in space when humans have been walking around without special suits for 100,000 years? Stupid space suits.
@deanbmmv: It pains me to have to spell out this analogy but here it goes: going to space was a huge advance in the human experience but it required a small sacrifice, astronauts had to wear protective suits. Likewise, the iphone is a huge advance in cell phones but we had to make a marginal sacrifice, we couldn't wear gloves.
Also: reading comprehension, you need to get you some.
@The Lab: Don't need reading comprehension.
You just compared the Space Race to the iPhone. And I'd call not wearing space suits more of a sacrifice. It was something that lets you stay alive in space.
Whereas the iPhone touchscreen has the downside of no gloves with zero noticeable upsides. Oh and you need to ruin a perfectly fine pair of gloves so you can get your gloves to work.
And it's not like they couldn't just use a touchscreen that can work with gloves, like mine does (I had a check when I realised I might not be able to use my phone. Apparently my gloves work fine,so this seems to be an iPhone issue rather than a general touchscreen problem)
'Heres a cool phone, but you can't use it in winter' Cool phone gimped a bit on the hardware side, and it's been out for several years, not like they didn't click it might have a problem after the first winter.
@deanbmmv: I didn't compare anything, I made an analogy. You'll see analogies in the reading comprehension section of the SAT, which I'm thinking you'll do poorly on.
@The Lab: ehhh, I wouldn't call it a huge advance in cell phones, an advance to be sure, but purely because apple took all of the existing technology and put the best of the best together, theres nothing "new" in the iPhone that wasn't around before apple decided to use it. Capacitive touch screens, for example, have been around for years. And Capacitive touch interfaces even longer. So yeah, wouldn't really call it a huge advancement, just a good arrangement of current technology.
@The Lab: Seriously though? That was just about the worst analogy I've ever read. Even after you explained it in detail, it made almost no tangible sense.
@The Lab: Am I the only one that got your analogy?
@deanbmmv: Wow. You have no idea what the differences between resistive and capacitive screens are. The iPhone doesn't work with gloves, fingernails, and styluses because it has a capacitive screen. Already, I know your phone's screen is made of plastic (probably has a lot of scratches unless you took extreme care of it), doesn't have multi-touch, and is harder to see in sunlight.
@iheartpie: Capacitive screens do not require pressure. The slightest touch will work a capacitive screen. Resistive screens need pressure, which is why they can't be made of glass.
@Pope John Peeps II: I'll agree it wasn't a good analogy. I think the explanation was clear enough. This deanbmmv guy didn't even understand that, which is worrisome.
The iphone is great phone but there are some legitimate complaints that can be raised about it. That it doesn't work with gloves is not a significant one because a) it is such a small issue and b) any other phone with a capacitive screen will have the same problem.
It just pains me to see people who will literally find the smallest thing to bitch about.
@iDeNoh: A huge advance in cell phones is not the same as a huge advance in cell phone technology. Everyone knows Apple does not sit on the bleeding edge of technology. What they do well is make amazing UIs and that is what they did here, they made a smartphone you didn't have to be particularly smart to use. You can claim this wasn't a huge advance but I've got some sales figures here that shows the cell phone market would beg to differ. There is a reason Apple became the most profitable handset manufacturer.
@The Lab: No, what apple did was take already existing technology, couple it with a pretty good ui, and mass hype the fuck out of it to their adoring fans, lets just assume for a moment that buying an iPhone wasn't the "trendy" thing to do, imagine how the sales would have been if people didn't have that weighing down their decision. and seriously, do you honestly think that people buy apple products for their function? it has ALWAYS been form over function with them, always. you can say apple is the most successful handset manufacturer all you want, but that doesn't make it true. Nokia is by far the most successful company at the moment, their market share is like 40%, fourty freakin percent man, and they *suck* right now. imagine if they were making good handsets.
@iDeNoh: Whoa, Apple has a higher profit than Nokia and growing marketshare. I don't know what your definition of "successful" is. MArket share don't mean shit if you aren't making money.
On the design tip, a good ui IS function. Their design philosophy has always been to make products that are intuitive to use. And they are.
@The Lab: Dude, your whole argument is based off of YOUR opinion of the UI, just because you think its a great UI that doesn't make it any good, if anything its counter intuitive and locked down to shit. There are far better interfaces than pages and pages of icons on a grid.
@iDeNoh: Actually, dude, my argument is based off of stellar iPhone sales, which I am saying is because of the UI. You think it is fanboys but why are there so many fanboys? (hint: it is the UI)
@The Lab: do you honestly think that a majority of the iPhone users didn't buy the phone because its the trendy thing to do? If you honestly believe that you're more naive than I thought possible.
@Kaiser-Machead: Well, it's quite possible that somewhere on the Internet you can also find a DIY project to repurpose your current Flashlight for a LED flEshlight too...

@franco1975: it takes some practice. youll break on or two, then youll be a pro. my old roommate used to hollow them out to use them for... illicit activities.
