@a10jeep: *Gleegasm* Is there seriously someone out there that loves the F-16 as much as I do? It's the only plane I could pick out of the whole crowd... I can pick 'em out by engine sound, lettering (I mean, seeing the phrase F-16 in a wall of text), a 10x10 pixelated image, TV static, or even in a group of clouds. Maybe I'm just hopelessly obsessed.
But I think I found it...
edit: y'know, considering the sheer massive size of an F-16, the little image above is kinda a huge taste of scale... an aircraft whose wing comes up to the top of my head being reduced to a 10x10px square in an aerial shot? Wow.
i see 2 747-400s the planes right of the cross looking thing seem to be either Airbus A310s or boeing 737s. the darker ones to the very left look like some Hercules ones.
@NotSoSiniSter: I think its funny that you picked up on the commercial airliners first. All of my childhood fawning over airplanes never included people carriers.
Yeah thats defiantly a Hercules C-130 (or some variation there of) in the upper most left. Thats a B-1 under it. The massive one next to it might be a C-5 Galaxy, just 'cause well its massive. There looks to be an f-14 in there. Its one of the "smaller" darker ones.
@tande04: NO f-14's they were decommissioned because the US Government rather have a more expensive less capable plane in the super hornet . (the last one to ever fly in the US is here in bethpage).
@tande04: Yeah I when I was a kid I was obsessed with military aircraft. There was this sort of collectible (monthly release I think) series called Aircraft of the World (I believe) and I loved building it up with all the aircraft. You basically were given large 3 ring binders and you would get a series of new pages of air craft with all the specs and info on them. They were sorted into a ton of sub categories to go through them easier. I had a like 5 + large binders. Lol that brings back a lot of memories.
Anyway, it would be cooler if there was a high-res photo.
I want to say one of the small ones is an F-15 too, but the pic is too small
@GodfreyOriole: I was going to say I don't think that the Government moving on to a new plane would really dictate what shows up at an airshow but according to wiki they "shredded" all the f-14's which I would have never guessed.
Still... It doesn't look angular enough for an f-15 and its obviously got to be one of the bigger fighters. Hmm... maybe its just shadows that are throwing off the shape. Plus as Kaiser said its pretty low res.
I did also have an entire book on all the Star Trek ships (I grew up on TNG), and then a pretty good amount of stuff of Star Wars (I was a bigger Star Wars fan though). I was sort of geeky as a kid. I was a BIG lego kid lol.
Hmm, Dubai is like my 10 year-old godchild... He wants crap just because everyone else has it and of course, he gets it. I'm kinda' bored of that pattern and Dubai has no character now- it's just a spoiled brat.
Every single time I see "worlds biggest" or "world's largest" It's always in dubai. That is excluding humans of course. All of the worlds largest of those are in America apparently. #burjdubaifountain
People in the UAE are eating too much of the wrong foods and straining the nation’s food supply, according to food experts and a recently released UN report. The Food and Agriculture Organisation estimated that the average daily caloric intake per person in the UAE in 2005 was just over 3,000 calories – almost a third above the recommended amount for a healthy person.

At least one child in six in the UAE under the age of five suffers from stunted growth as a result of poor nutrition, according to doctors.

More than one in three children in Dubai are overweight, according to a study released yesterday by Dubai Health Authority.
@vqro: The UAE is at a disadvantage and has to import some 80 per cent of the food it consumes. We can take 'em! Home-grown advantage! #burjdubaifountain
@Sticks Calhoun: Oh, okay. In that case, can you help me put together a petition to get the Windows 7 burger on American Burger King menus? #burjdubaifountain
I would think the air there so dry that all this water would evaporate quickly. Its pretty though, and I wouldnt mind throwing a penny in it. #burjdubaifountain
@Curves: Humidity in the UAE is very often over 80%. Thankfully summer is over, so it's no longer 105 degrees at night with 95% humidity. Walking home from work was bleh.
Also, don't throw a penny, get some 1 fil pieces. Only 0.0027 cents! #burjdubaifountain
"The air is dry and leads to the water evaporating quickly".
Clearly you do not have a science background and I won't hold you liable for your comment.
Humidity levels in Dubai are perennially high. It ranges from a healthy 40% all the way up to 80% during the high season. It has been found to be more than 80% sometimes.
The heat in Dubai is unbearably high only for 2-3 months a year to even have a significant effect on still-standing water bodies i.e. artificial lakes and ponds a la Emirates Hills, Jumeirah Lake Towers, The Meadows etc.
The average temperature is lower now than it was a decade ago, rain is more common than in yester-years. Humidity levels remain high. The water is not evaporating simply because the air is dry.
Dubai is an amazing city with unbelievable identity crisis. Having being born and brought up there, I can attest to the outlandish and seemingly unsustainable undertakings by the city and its myriad planners. It always takes time for forward vision and unabated excited execution balance themselves out. The exuberance has ended and the process of balance is underway.
I cannot help but appreciate Dubai for its initiatives notwithstanding the numerous issues that have arisen. Nowhere in the world can yo usee so many things being done so fast. The underlying issues, contradictions and concerns will duly be addressed.
@spathak85: The actual quote is "I would think the air there so dry that all this water would evaporate quickly". That has nothing to do with a lack of science background, more lack of familiarity with the climate of the UAE. And please feel free to hold me liable for any comment I make here, but please just use the actual quote. #burjdubaifountain
