I think Sony gave me that "full colonoscopic verification" when I bought my Bravia...oh no wait that was just me getting screwed...well I knew it SOUNDED familiar.
How much more accurate is this vein scanner from a standard fingerprint scanner, such as what Lenovo puts on their Thinkpad devices? The latter we have found to be problematic and relatively easy to crack, but if this is a major improvement - that would be a fantastic step forward. Ideally, it would be nice to have something like this plugged into all of our desktops in the office and staff could authenticate with nothing more than giving us the finger. Insulting, sure - but much more entertaining than remembering a 14 character password.
And I thought there didn't need to be any more forms of verification after:
-Fingerprint scans
-Retinal Scans
-Facial Recognition
-DNA matching
-Racial Profiling (if it's enough for the TSA agents to pull me to the side, it MUST be legit)
@I-Love-Gizhacker: The thing with biometrics is most have some weakness so generally you combine a couple distinct methods. If vein is good on "liveness" requirements that would complement several of the others that can be spoofed with physical copies like photos.
How about we have a Flesh Light penis reader. In order to log into your computer you shove your cock into the penis reader kinda like in the movie Gattica only way way different.
This is a very common problem, actually, but I've found that the best solution is to tattoo both the lover and the twin sister with slightly different barcodes in a place that neither of them notices or is aware of.
It'll have to be pretty thick to do a good sized finger. My 10mm Abyss Replica Titanium band is considered huge, and only covers like 40% of my fingerprint.
I do like the uniqueness, though. About my level of quirk.

Like the speed dial numbers of old, I'm never going to remember more than one or two combinations.

Ignoring the fact that every person in the universe talks about going "paperless", it is great that this can be done.

I'm surprised that "harsh handling" doesn't alter the fingerprint.
