@DustyButt™: Yep. Got it this morning. Wish they hadn't changed the unlock slider though. I liked the semicircular one. This one feels like a step backwards.
That's what I really like about Android - they can push out a minor update directly to the phone and it's 10 MB. Even the tiniest update for the iPhone is 275 MB that has to be done on your computer.
This is where I am slightly confused (read very). I know that 60fps in a game is extremely smooth. I also know that movies in the theatre are done at 24fps which gives them a great feel visually. Home HDTV's support 24fps now. And almost all of our dig cams do 30fps....so, if you record at 60FPS, wouldn't the image start to look slower, not just smoother? I mean at what point does the image change from looking normal to moving in slow motion? I'm guessing not at 60fps..lol. In any case, how would this allow for "half-speed" motion? I'm missing something here obviously.
@CommentingpointlesslyisMeh: The faster the framerate, the smoother the motion. Slow motion (or fast motion) is produced by playing back the video at a different rate from what it was recorded at. If I have a video recorded at 60fps, and I play it back at 60fps, it will be at normal speed (and look nice and silky smooth). If I take that same video and play it back at 30fps, it will appear to be in slow motion (half speed).
All great replies. that had really been annoying me. I do understand now. So if something is recorded at 30fps but played back on a 60hz screen then frames are added in between which makes things look a bit smoother but doesn't change speed of video. On the other hand, take a 1000 fps water drop and play it at 60hz and it looks super slo mo. I think I get it now. Thanks all!
Photography/videography question here (I'm currently learning, so excuse my ignorance):
- I'm looking for something that can take videos with very small/shallow depth of field which can be manually and smoothly controlled (dramatic effect). Stuff that the Canon 5D Mark II and apparently the 7D can also do, as seen on these Florent Porta videos: [xspblog.com] [xspblog.com]
Are dSLRs the cheapest way to go?
Considering I'm also interested in testing (in the probably distant future) the effects of different lens types on video (and stuff like tilt-shift), unless there's a very cheap camcorder alternative, I'm thinking of selling my Canon XSi to get a 5D Mark II or 7D.
@bagellord: I'd surmise it's on the server end then. Maybe your Exchange server simply doesn't allow outside connections, and the Blackberry servier is local to it, or is an explicit exception.
Try talking to your Exchange admins, maybe they can shed some light on it.
@Brain.wav: The network admin has been trying to get it to work and has been unable. I'm betting it's on the server side and he hasn't found it since he's been busy.
@Gaucho85: I had ordered the Eris first, which I liked a little better than the Moto. But for this same reason I changed my mind, since Moto phone has the stock Android it will be getting more/faster updates than the ones with the skinned UI. The Eris is really nice though, but who knows when it'll get Android 2.0.
@zorrillaj: I went to the store with the intention of getting the droid mostly for the marginally faster processor and 2.0, but the physical keyboard and the extra $100 was kind of a turn off. I felt the Eris would eventually get 2.0 or 2.1 and the look was a lot more to my liking so. . .
Can anyone clarify whether or not the 85% increase in Wireless-on battery life is for both the U.S. and Int'l versions of the Kindle 2? This press release seems to conflict with reports elsewhere.
@pdditty: Well, dagnabit. It appears that you are correct. [e-bookvine.com] Turning off the wireless between syncs isn't hard, it's just an avoidable hassle. Maybe in a future update, "Sync" will just switch the wireless on, download new data, and switch it off. It seems easy enough.
@Anthony Sarkees: If the wireless is turned off how would the Kindle know when there is a new firmware available? Maybe it could do a weekly/monthly "phone home".
@Fractal the Meek: I have both the DX and the 2. The DX looks almost the same except that the PDF's are more zoomed in. On the 2 it's still too small for most PDFs except when you turn it landscape.
@Noobs-R-Us: Damn your objective honesty. I wanted to hear, "Oh, it's fantastic and comes with puppies and rainbows! It's just what you've been waiting for."
So Sony makes a platform built around single person games, hire companies to make shooters under the assumption that we have no friends, then link us all up by facebook?
I know gizmodo readers love facebook (judging from previous comments I have read) but am I the only one on here that does not like sharing all this information with with the world?
Also there is no way I am interesting enough for anyone to care what games I have bought or what trophies I have won on ps3, why would you post this crap on a website? This just adds to the millions of useless crap I see on peoples feeds on facebook.
@LukeDukem: I like Facebook but this is too much. I prefer the Xbox's approach more in that you get the full screen photo's and whatnot. Publishing trophies?... no thanks.
@Thee Sea: The problem with a firmware update is that it has the potential to brick any device.
I once killed my DVD burner by leaving a disc in the drive when I flashed it.
There is no 100% flawless transition. Besides, I think Sony said the problem was from people having a 3rd party HDD in their PS3 that wasn't fully compatible.
@Thee Sea: You can't expect Sony or any manufacturer to be able to predict every hardware configuration.
The reason we don't hear anything like this for the 360 is because the hardware is locked down to MS proprietary hardware. (HDDs anyone)
I'm a firm believer that human error accounts for the majority of all problems. It's also possible that the system was screwed before and people are trying to use the firmware update as an excuse to get Sony to pay the bill.
Moral of the story kiddies, leave your system stock and follow ALL directions to reduce the risk, otherwise, accept the consequences.
@00000000: The PS3 is not a computer. It is a piece of hardware that is, for all intents and purposes, nearly completely locked. Like it or not, most people using the PS3 are NOT replacing the harddrive or anything of the sort and the brick reports are coming from stock systems.
So YES, I CAN expect some to predict hardware configurations.
@Thee Sea: Still don't see eye to eye with your logic there. Everything that can/will recieve a firmware update has a chance of breaking, stock or not. S'a pretty simple concept, really.
The reason behind using the computer quip was that compys are (probably) the most common devices that you would incur any upgrading of the os/firmware. #tips
Don't get me wrong, I suppose last night, when this article appeared, I could have clicked a couple of source links to figure out that this was just a preview. Or maybe it might have been a good option to note in the article that this is just a preview.
On a lighter note - GO GET YOUR BATTLEFIELD BETA KEYS!!! Maybe I am stupid enough to think that this update was live at the time of this article, but my stupidity led me to finding that they're beta keys to be had for PS3 users exclusively. Go to ign.com and register, go to your account home page and find the link. OR just click [www.fileplanet.com]#facebookps3
