@Mark Wilson: With a timeframe? You bet. If I had made a one year bet two years ago when the vaportablet was first rumored with every mac-tard on earth, I'd be a billionaire by now.
@Mark Wilson: I'll take some of that action. Read what he said, "Bordering on ficticious". This is a product that is not confirmed to exist by anyone who can be said to know for sure. A million rumours do not make a product real.
@Steve Schmitz: if you want a good laugh, search for #appletablet here on Giz. 58 articles over 2 years ( I assume there are more not tagged as the first is a photoshop contest).
I'm sorry Mark but corporate whisperings and unofficial concept images make for a pretty insubstantial product. While it's incredibly likely that this is going to happen it's still a way off.
I mean you only have to look through the Apple tablet articles on Gizmodo to see that it's nothing more than a swirling cloud of rumour and anticipation. The most we have from Apple about it is a very vague patent.
I mean to quote another article on Giz:
"We still don't know what the fabled Apple Tablet actually looks like, or if it even exists, really"
It's probably not fictitious but it is damn well toeing that line. It's just silly how many articles are posted if someone even breathes the words "Apple Tablet". The hype is just getting ridiculous.
@Kaiser-Machead: i disagree...MBPs rely so much on passive heat dissipation and the air gaps below the chiclets.. Any increase in surface area is a plus and i guess that product is for those who otherwise would have it closed while docked. That's bad juju, imo.
I bought my MBP in the summer, and I don't regret it at all. It's a fantastic machine with superb battery life. If you don't currently have a proper computer to hold you over for the next few months, just get it now. You won't regret it. Don't fall for the same nonsense the bleeding edge people do.
@Kaiser-Machead: If your iffy about the price of the machines you can get great deals in the refurbished lines. Just go to the store link and you will find the refurbs in the lower left. My first laptop was a Powerbook g4 that I bought in 2004 and I got almost 6 years out of it (just got a new MBP about a month ago)
I'm curious about the iPod dock phenomenon, at least as far as sound is concerned. Couldn't you get the same quality sound by getting a male-to-male 3.5mm cable and piping it out to a device? Of course, that wouldn't lock you into the iPod/iPhone line. Can't have that.
@stryder100: remote control, onscreen ui, charging, better quality, ability to increase device volume rather than amping it (better sound). plus, it's just easier to plunk your ipod in than to worry about cables. since lock-in is a valid concern, most devices also have aux-out.
@franco1975: Mactards act snooty because it is a self defense mechanism - Pretend you just spent upwards of $2000 on a computer that is only as fast as a $500 PC - so then you power up this over-priced bad-boy only to find that you can't use any decent software - no games, (unless you inclued 4 year old releases of games like Age of empires 3) then you find out that all this cool open-source and beta stuff that is coming out will not or has yet to release a mac version - THEN you start digging through crap programs like "Safari" and you really get worried - but you've already spent your duckets on this overpriced intel powered crap - so the only thing left to do is look down your nose at those PC users who can do whatever they want - for way less money.
@met2art: Twas the Night before christmas, and all through the houes, quiet pc's on windows 98 were gaming and chatting and playing at dice? This is going nowhere... Try dealing with an office full of Macs running Quark and Photoshop - and then spend a week digging through font conflicts every time OSX updates... Good Times.
Truth be told I spent $140 more for a MB which is lighter (mostly due to an inferior battery), smaller, has a better LCD, better graphics card, and multi-touch when compared to my work laptop which is a Vostro.
The Vostro does bring a bunch of pluses over the MB though like a bigger battery, firewire, sd slot, pc express slot, vga out, svideo, hardware switches for thing like wifi, and it's cheaper.
Referb MBs in the past have been a pretty good deal and I don't deny that I did pay a premium, but truth be told there are some pluses (although the sharp edges are annoying).
When you go up in the product line to the higher end laptops, iMacs, and Mac Pro's, that is when the price to performance gap starts to get ridiculous.
There is no way I could justify getting a desktop made with laptop parts for $2200 when for half of that I could eclipse it with an OC'd Bloomfield with better hardware. Sure you have to add a better LCD, but there are "pretty good" ones out there for a few hundred that are good enough for what, 95% of the population?
On a related note, I thought your post was a riot... haha
@Radio Silence: I have no clue where you were going with that, or how you ended up where you did. As a PC user I'm really not sure what to say or where to go with this.

If you are a big coke drinker. Skinit has free skins in exchange for the codes on coke products. They also allow for uploads and do every device under the sun. So you can pay for it (you consumer whore) or get it free (like me the 400lb, case a day, diabetic, IT guy).
I am laughing at you all. But you will need to look carefully because my mouth is between my 4th and 5th chin.
