I've never actually tried McD's coffee. There's a lot of talk of Starbucks sucking - I think it's alright, but it had better be, since all the coffee I've had there has been candied with so much sugar, had all the calories of a burger, and cost as much as a combo meal. I don't go there anymore because they are basically the Wal-Mart of coffee shops - take over a city entirely until there is no competition then expand some more.
Tim Horton's coffee is... it has got to vary regionally, based on the acclaim it gets, but the best I can say of what I had is that it wasn't burnt.
The best coffee I've had actually came from a Nescafe vending machine... we had one on my college campus until it fell into disrepair when they opened the Starbucks and Timmy's also on campus. Now I drink tea...
Also, if that steam got on you it would suck the heat right out of you. Luckily(?!!!) where I live, something like that would freeze solid and break down in a day - if not, you'd just hear a crackling as the steam desublimated into ice crystals as they vanished into the dryness of a -35C day.
The last time I was at Starbucks, and I mean the LAST time, a 'barrista' (Italian for "snot") would not sell me a "medium" coffee. I had to speak Spanish or Italian or whatever the hell language they speak there. Venti? Wtf is Venti?
@Gary_7vn: It's all good. There's a scene in the movie that plays out just like your post. I thought the quotation marks would have made it clear I was quoting something and not trying to insult you.
@5erge: Here it is:
Danny: Can I get a large black coffee?
Barista: A what?
Danny: Large black coffee.
Barista: Do you mean a venti?
Danny: No, I mean a large.
Barista: Venti is large.
Danny: No, venti is twenty. Large is large. In fact, tall is large and grande is Spanish for large. Venti is the only one that doesn't mean large. It's also the only one that's Italian. Congratulations, you're stupid in three languages.
Barista: A venti is a large coffee.
Danny: Really? Says who? Fellini? Do you accept lira or is it all euros now?
I love McDonald's coffee. There I said it. Their burgers, not so much, not at all actually. Okay, they make me sick..
Maybe there is just a little bit of elitism in saying it sucks. Blind taste tests beg to differ...
McDonald's brews best
VANCOUVER -- Leaping lattes! In a blind taste test conducted by Canadian Business magazine, McDonald's coffee outranked brews from Starbucks, Tim Hortons and a new premium coffee introduced by Coca-Cola.

It seems Ronald McDonald has snatched the crown from the head of the Starbucks logo-lady.
The taste test, published in the magazine's Sept. 25 issue, asked four Toronto-area coffee aficionados to sample four over-the-counter coffees without knowing what they were tasting.
Added together, the final rankings put McDonald's first, with a rating of six-and-a-half cups, followed by Starbucks with five, Tim Hortons with four, and Coke with a single cup.
Actually their coffee isn't too bad. Unfortunately Dunkin Donuts hasn't made it to the left coast yet. Whenever I have to go to Cali for work it's Micky D's or the two small coffee shops near the hotel. There is a Starbucks down the street (I actually drive past in order to get to McDonalds) but I'll only drink their swill out of absolute desperation.
I'd rather drink coffee from McD's and Dunkin than from Starbucks or equivalent. Only boutique cup-o-joe shack I go to now is Bean&Bean down the block, for their sweet sweeeet hot apple cider with whipped cream on top. Other than that, I'm not paying $5 or more for what is, in my opinion, lower on the palatability scale than curbside street vendor coffee.
@Kaiser-Machead: Funny, everyone who puts down Starbucks seems to use the "$5" as the base price. Or sometimes it's "$3.50." Just got a triple Americano for $2.57. A triple espresso is around 2 bucks, a double less. Not a great price but still. I don't like their brewed coffee though. Tastes like burnt poop.
Their coffee sucks? Last I heard (and I don't drink coffee), reports showed more people like McDonald's coffee more than coffeeshops. And many more than Starbucks.
@MrNaPaLm32: As a counterpoint, this comment is a piece of literary art. So thought-provoking and eloquently written. Not at all the angsty outbursts of an angry teen with nothing better to do than yell at other people instead of creating something for himself.
Here's the thing. I really, really wanted Avatar to be amazing. I really did. But from everything I've seen, it looks really bad. Like, a top-10 list of Sci-Fi clichés mixed with Ferngully. I really hope I'm wrong and the movie somehow recoups its $200+ million budget, but at this point I just don't see it.
wow that is pretty cool. useless at this point, but very cool. cant wait to see board games and paper/dice rpg accessories use this tech in the future.

If I had a coffee shop or a bakery, I'd do my best to make the coffee and freshly baked bread smell to spread all over.

I even stick up for them in the taste department. I've never gotten the "burnt" comments I always see.
Then again I don't ever get pikes peak or whatever their standard roast is. That I agree, generally tastes like shit.

Now, whether or not the movie is any good is still up in the air.
I, however, will give Mr. Cameron the benefit of the doubt until I see the movie.
As long as this isn't another True Lies, I'll be happy.
To my knowledge he hasn't made a bad sci-fi action movie yet. (Xenogensis and Piranha's 2 don't count.)
The Abyss, Aliens, T1 & T2? Golden.
