This is exactly what I wanted to see going into 2010. A new company finally stepping up to offer all the features we want in a phone that no one's been courageous enough to give us. Like 3G. And multitouch.
Not to mention Samsung is leading the way into next-generation technobabble. Flash control? WEB control?! Baby, sign me up! Oh, and not to mention, with the Oceanic theme they're going for, teens and young adults the world over will never be without an excuse to sing "I'm on a boat!" The possibilities are endless!
And as if that wasn't enough, they'll be including the TouchWiz interface! As a young man who grew up in the tech generation, I can't tell you how cool TouchWiz sounds. I can't tell people about my phone's TouchWiz. And the multimedia cube! Man, kids are all about the cubes these days. I mean, I saw a Rubik's cube the other day at Wal-Mart......and also there was that cube in the first Transformers. See? They're everywhere!
I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it but it seems to me the last thing the mobile community needs is another "open" OS. This is a contrarian move by Samsung.
@Gordonium: I live in Santa Barbara. Honestly, the weather is so perfect here that it has become absolutely boring. I miss Denver and it's unpredictability!
@wickemu: Yeah, I grew up in the Southeast, and the weather is absolutely insane. Then I moved to New England, where they say, "Don't like the weather? Wait five minutes; it'll change." Then I moved to SB, and it was pretty fantastic. The complete lack of "weather" got old, but now that I live back in the Southeast, I definitely miss the eternal sunshine (and the surfing!). Ah well... at least now I have seasons again.
I'd like to put in a word in support of humanity. People always seem to want to put us in our place, just because we are so very small. Every new discovery or fresh perspective is a chance to remind us that we don't really matter.
Well I think we're a pretty big deal. In fact, if aliens came to visit our solar system, I think we'd be first on the list of things to check out, way ahead of other neat stuff like Jupiter or whales or weather.
I could not sleep knowing these things were in my house....plotting against me in evil league with the monsters that already live under my bed. Thanks, No. #opensourceswarmrobots
I love how a project like this can potentially bring happiness to other people in Tony Quan's situation. Drawing is pure expression, by proxy i may add. However, this will help him express what is on his mind better than in his current condition. My prayers go out to Tony for a recovery no matter how slim the chances. #eyewritergraffiti
