If you buy a computer for someone who's part Amish, do yourself a favor and do what I did. I bought my dad a new notebook but it was under the condition he could only call them for tech support, and he could only call AOL for his Internet support.
I told him right off the bat that it was under those conditions and I'd send him a nice new laptop. He said ok (in all caps which he responds to all emails) and I got him the present.
Just make sure of that and you'll be off the hook. If you don't, the calls will come and it will be a gift that never stops giving (you being the one who gives).
He just got the nice Sony Camcorder I sent him for this year with a Zeiss lens and it records to the mini DVD so he can put his stuff on YouTube, but it was the same deal and he loves the camera.
These items are too progressive. You don't throw the kid on a two-wheeled bike who's never ridden one before. That's why we have training wheels. You gotta start slow.
@Jrsy Devil's Advocate®: They will learn how to take a screenshot of a desktop / program running and remove the icons pretty quickly if you give them that :P
@Jrsy Devil's Advocate®: i used to have a video of my niece at age 3 closing all the windows and opening ms paint and on my command expand and clear the page. it was real cute till she closed quick books one day without saving:(
I think this would be a good gift for them too, especially if they're the type of person who likes to proudly gifts and knickknacks on their office desk, or against the windows of their homes/cars.
WOW. I just found my mom's old polaroid camera. This makes me really excited to get to try it out.
Polaroid was a bit before my time, so now getting to try it out is gonna be great!
Why is it that the people who make fun of places like Urban Outfitters are always those pretty much not cool enough to shop there. People who are cool enough to shop there just shrug their shoulders, and don't really care, and occasionally find a great shirt on clearance for 20 bucks and are happy about it.
If I use the film, then the camera itself is useless. If I save the film, it will go bad eventually and kinda defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place, in which case the camera is useless again.
Am I supposed to buy this hoping that it will someday be worth something to someone long after I have died?
