When opened it says new version found, and when I download and install it, I'm told my device (G1) is not supported. The current version is lacking search support, there are no user comments or reviews, and the menus are confusing. And there is only 1 app available. I'm all for competition with the iPhone, but Apple has zero to worry about MiKandi so far.
I actually know 3 women and 1 man who have installed porn filters on their home computers because their spouses keep looking at internet porn. 2 of the marriages are at the brink of divorce because of their porn addiction. :( I cant even send non porn pictures or links to them because the filter blocks it.
True story. Im not making it up.
@chauncy that billups: [that is one marriage i want to see broken up to be honest. Not because i want to swoop in or be mean but because she is a very liberated woman who is at ease with her body but her hubby is a prude. the marriage was a mistake. ]
@franco1975: Is it an actual porn addiction, or the fact that their spouse is a prude and sucks in bed so they retreat to the safety of fantasy and porn rather than say, going out and sleeping with someone else?
@Lite: hates Illinois Nazis: For 2 of the guys , its porn addiction. Im defining porn addiction as 'a need for porn that impedes their professional and social life'. They got fired for looking at porn at work ( obviously they dont work at Gizmodo LOL)The woman longs for a carefree STD free world where people can express love physically, organically and as often as they wish sans judgement from society. Ironically, her husband thinks sex is filthy and woman who like sex are sluts. Match made in heaven??
@fluidexistence: This is really true. Im talking to him on messenger right now. I told him 'New Parental Filter Will Annihilate Internet Porn Forever' and he almost died in his chair. LOL #tips
@franco1975: Anyone who gets fired for looking at pr0n is either dumb or foolishly addicted in a way that's simply wrong.
Now, I don't dislike porn--in fact, like most readers of Giz (or so I assume), I frequent the freebies. But it doesn't affect my relationship, my job, my family, or my own mental health.
It's just porn, people. Time and place, time and place.
Knowing the endless depths that denizens of the nets can sink to, I imagine there would be a subset of individuals who would install it purposefully.... and that is even more disturbing.
As a parent, I think its a good idea to block porn (not this way of course) becaue I dont want my kid getting sex ed from porn, since its so NOT even close to real life/like.(Personally, I end up laughing at most porn since its so ridiculous, and funny, even though they dont mean it to be.)
@Curves: I was taught about sex from when I was 8 or so. There was never a subject that my mom didn’t cover (within reason obviously) and even offered to provide rubbers if I wanted them as an early teen. I never took her up on the offer because that would have been creepy, but the offer stood nonetheless.
Porn did teach me how to do it though. Without that kind of knowledge my first encounters would have been a mess I’m sure. It taught me some of the intricacies that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. Sure most of the situations and what not are not real life, but the method is still sound…
If and when I do have kids I wouldn’t want them watching porn simply because kids (boys more so) are horney enough as it is and don’t need any further stimulation, but far too many parents now days insist on teaching their kids and truth be told, they do no such thing. In my day (I’m 33) we had sex education at school and while it was all stuff that I already knew, most of my friends didn’t because their parents were too scared to talk to them about it.
Now sex education is non-existent and I know full well that most kids have to resort to porn, stories from their friends, or TV to learn about sex. If a kid wants to get laid, he/she will and the best thing you can do as a parent is to arm them with as much information as possible so when the time comes they don’t wind up being a parent before they are ready. Far too many American’s are in denial when it comes to kids and sex.
@UnderLoK: What the hey, man! (Excuse my french.) You're talking like children should actually know stuff. Like children should be able to have open dialogue with their parents about sensitive subjects. Like parents should know things about their children beyond which Power Ranger is their favorite.
What have you got against happy families? Honestly.
@UnderLoK: I think it's a good idea for parents to introduce sex at a similar age as you did before you're a teenager and already pumped with hormones. But then again, I know some kids at that age that seems more mature than they look. Mileage may vary.

So you're telling me that MiKandi had a premature release?
11/28/09
Maybe the developer wrote it using the 2.0 sdk. If that's the case, the G1 might never be supported.

Though it is a clever use of the already phallic looking android mascot.

@tande04: Thankfully, the Apple symbol has crossed over, too.

Sorry. I digress. Are we talking "job/family/relationship is suffering from porn addiction", or are their spouses just uptight tools?
