<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> "And it's nice to finally figure out why those first leaked iPad images looked so strange"

Yes, and now Apple knows exactly who leaked them, or at least violated it's NDA. "While Apple will ship iPads out to devs, they won't do so until they've got photographic proof that their restrictions have been complied with."

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> A positive explanation of this ... strains credulity.

I think that business cultures can become very insular. Apple seems to take their secrecy measures a bit further than needed to say the least. There's worse things you could do for sure, such as the way MS was for a stretch in the early 2000's, but this just seems silly.

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> This isn't too unusual. A friend of mine worked at a place that had the source code to the pentium processor (the VHDL used to design the chip) - Intel specified that the data be kept in a locked room and that all 4 walls of that room be solid concrete - not drywall someone could easily break through with a hatchet. I'll be the NDA they signed was far longer than 10 pages. This was years after the pentium was a competitive design.

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> Too bad that with all of this security, and with all of these precautions, the general public is going to give a loud "meh..." to the MaxiPad. Seriously, I CANT WAIT until Apple is made irrelevant in the marketplace. I am sure there will be a lot of iSheep upset with this post, or the possiblity that their cult leader may have overstepped his ego with this POS, but, hey, look on the bright side: There will be a company that comes after Apple, that does things better, and doesnt censor apps or websites. Myself, I am probably going to get an Android or Win7 tablet that can actually surf the WHOLE web, not just Job's walled garden.

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> I would say this is on par with most R&D practices. Interesting to read about, but nothing abnormal (nor am i insinuating that this was position as abnormal)... : )

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> Ohhh they are going all out. We just got our iPad instructions today, and it's something like, the desk it's on must be 15" x 25" and no more than 4' off the ground with blah blah blah (those aren't the eact numbers).

Also, even though Apple has announced the device, we were just 5 minutes ago told not to tell anyone whether or not we will have it which is most likely a result of them being far behing with their orders (as usual for Apple in this situation).

They are pretty anal and very specific about the layout of a store carrying their products, but with the iPad they've managed to get into more depth.

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> Hell, i'd probably do the same. I'd even implement retina scans like the patent department at my job does.

All i need is a badge and thumb scan and for security to give me a nod of approval.

When it comes to secrecy my company does a lot of the same things. In fact the only reason i can be on this blog during lunch breaks is because i have my own mac book pro with an AT&T data stick next to my office window where the cell phone jammers in building don't affect it. I'm lucky at&t has a site that beams to my office building window near the prudential center here in boston and my window is in line of sight with it so the singal jammers aren't strong enough to outdo their 850 mhz direct beam (but thats besides the point). Outside of my office however, our labs also have tinted windows and 4 different signal jammers, and also jammers for potential audio enhancing devices that people can use to listen to us from another building.

But unlike apple, most of our development deals with military and intelligence technology. We actually have national security to worry about to some extent, apple is just greedy lol. but if they can pull it off more power to them.

<![CDATA[How Apple Keeps iPad Developers on Extreme Lockdown]]> I've seen reviews but I've not seen anyone that has used existing apps on it.

With more then double the CPU speed I'm wondering if it will run all current apps better?

Some of the games I have for my 3G run like ASS!!! I'm hoping they run at least normal on the iPad.

You ain't seen security measures till you've battled raptors on hoverboards with a wooden spoon and an iShield (which is little more than a trashcan lid stamped with the apple logo).
