Hey whoa, waitaminute! What part of this pie chart is for N64 and PS2 players? That's what I play on a regular basis, along with NES, SNES, and my good ol' xbox orig.
As a female mostly x PC-gamer, I understand the results. I no longer really have the time or motivation to maintain the best gaming equipment or character stuff so I'm not a player to be taken seriously. I'm the creepy old chick with the dumb looking character that only gets invited to group events as more of a mascot than anything. I'm also about the only one that can manage to kill my own group members.
Does it hurt my feelings? No. I just don't have the time and motivation to be a serious player. I think most females (not all), feel this way too. It's hard arguing with a testosterone filled male why you don't care that your character is a fool.
@Shamoononon: I shave my legs.: as a guy who plays games the same way, I play games in my free time, which I don't have much of.
Sure I enjoy games, and read reviews, get excited about cool new releases but tbh, I didn't buy any new consoles (student), got given a wii for free and Im surviving.
Mainly cos my flatmate has fallout 3 (which seems to be mentioned a lot here) on his PC, and Im mucking about with a character on there.
Primarily it tells us that Nintendo tapped into a market in which 80 % of the potential customers were not buying the product other producers are selling.
@Shamoononon: I've actually found playing many video games to be enriching experiences. Fallout 3, for instance, has depth that rivals the best of science fictions writings. Mass Effect is a masterpiece of storytelling and directing. When I was growing up outside of the US, I increased by English vocabulary dramatically by playing games like Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate and Betrayal at Krondor. People need to get used to the idea that for some time, video games have been a rich and deeply nuanced literary and artistic medium.
@gunluva is prepared to drop.: oh huh really? I'm not sure, just taking an educated guess, considering those are the only people i ever see in Game Stop... How do you get a star?
Alright already, please stop lumping all "girls" into the Wii category. Some of us are not casual gamers. We kick behind on Halo and Fallout. I'm currently beating my significant other into the ground on Left 4 Dead achievements. So this "girl" ain't your Wii-toting sissy that you all seem so happy to rant about (or make plenty of jokes about...). I refuse to buy one because the quality of games just is not there. So again, do not lump us all together with the casual gamer market. Wiis are not attracting much of the core gamer market, and I will admit that women do not make up much of the core market. But hey, we're here to kick your behind just like the rest of them.
And I swear if one more jerk on XBL calls me a 10 year old boy and that I cannot possibly be the 23-year old female that I am, I will scream.
It's a casual gamers console, with very little to offer to hardcore gamers. Most casual gamers don't consider themselves gamers. Casual gamers include solitaire, flash games, phone games, and lots of "real games."
Most wii players don't consider themselves gamers.
What I'd really like to see is the number of hours played per game and played per console.

I'm female. My Wii is collecting dust as my 360 is racking up my electricity bill. Fallout 3 ftw.

@LVP: So you'd be picking up that copy of Metal Gear Solid 3 in the bottom left corner of the rack I take it?
