    Get this, in the US, the code is now that the 3-prong must be so the ground is top, not bottom. No more "screaming OH" orientation.

    I'd like to know why North America uses such chincy plugs. I never had any prongs bend when I lived in Germany.

    @JanDuKretijn: Unless I'm trying to bend them, I've never had a US plug bend either. (*Not that I routinely try to bend them, it's just that those forks don't fit by themselves.)

    Who came up with that color scheme? Yellow, yellow-green, green, light blue, and blue? Really?


    Red, blue, green, yellow, white. Problem solved.


    That aside, it's an interesting map and it's cool to see a visualization of what countries use what types of plugs.

    @iatacs19: I grew up in Argentina, and while it's true that they have that type of plug for grounded outlets, most places you will find the more common "double o" outlet (light green on the map, standard in mainland Europe).

    So before Google Earth, scientists didn't have things like maps which they would mark where they had searched before? Did they think it was an empty hole in the universe till Google took a photo?


    Julian Bayliss was looking around Google Earth for a new conservation project when he came across patches of green in Mozambique that appeared to be previously unexplored.

    If a place is explored, does it change color?

    @LastOne: I don't know, the whole "single bite" thing doesn't really scare me that much.


    I'd be much more scared about an animal that kills people by biting them 1000 times. at least the gaboon viper gets it over with.

    @m4ximusprim3: which makes you wonder, are there many species that can kill a man with two bites? That would certainly make a safer pet, at least in the short run.


    Come to think of it, anything that bites you enough will kill you, so it's all a matter of amount. I wonder if species could be catalogued based on number of bites until death? Snake = 1. Dog = 20. Cat = 100. Caterpillar = 10,000.
