If I was already planning on buying a PS3, this is enough to make me try to get one at Gamestop, which is probably what they're aiming for.

@Segador: A better bet might be WalMart. As pointed out in the post, the Gamestop ad is misleading because GOW collection is actually only 1 game and it only sells for $40 new. Dark Knight is a great Blu Ray to start off your collection and both games in the Walmart deal are excellent. LBP is a great game but with so much free content available, it may be more economical to the original edition as opposed to the GoTY which looks to be a part of the Gamestop deal.

    @Segador: Gamestop: 2 games, one is $40.

Walmart: 2 games, $60 each, plus a BD movie.

You can find LBP for much cheaper than both Batman and inFamous, because those two came out this year whereas LBP is more than a year old. GoW is a $40 package, again you're saving more by going with Walmart.

Why is it that PS3 games hold their value so much longer than Xbox 360 games. You've got games like Uncharted and Heavenly Sword which stay expensive for years. Infamous looks like it will follow that suit. Is it because there are so few good exclusive games on PS3?

Does anyone else think the prices for controllers are outrageous these days? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall PS2 or N64 controllers being the same price as a game.

@TheCatInTheHat: That's what wireless will do. Used to be that a controller was just a few switches and an encoder chip; now they have to throw in a Bluetooth radio, which ups the cost considerably.

Wireless controllers MSRP at $50. Even though they're $40 on Amazon, paying ten bucks for those four games is IMO a great deal for someone new to the Xbox. (Not so much for current 360 owners who probably already own most of the games included.)

Admittedly, it would've been nice to see them spring for Pac-Man CE rather than Ms. Pac-Man, or to put Castle Crashers in the pack.

Still, not nearly as bad a deal as you seem intent on making it appear. :P

@idiosynch: Controllers do not "run about $35." They go on sale from time to time, and then they go back up to $50. Can you find that sale often enough? Sure, but it is by no means the default price, nor a guarantee you will find it at that price on any given day.

I don't understand why MIRs are such a pain. All you have to do is fill out the form. Then make a photocopy. Then copy the reciept. Then cut up your nice box and get the UPC, unless they want the proof of purchase which is different from the upc and assuming you don't have 2 rebates and one needs the photocopy or the proof of purchase and the other needs the UPC. Then you make copys of everything for your records and put them in a drawer for safe keeping then mail in your rebate then when you don't get your rebate in 3 months you call them and then you argue for a while then you send in your photocopy of the UPC which you have to dig for an hour to find then mail that in to them and then wait for about 3 more months for a check that was dated 3 months ago and rush to the bank before it becomes invalid and Poof! Easy money.

@yantelope: I just scan a copy of all the info you photocopy, and email it to myself. That way it's time AND date stamped, and I can forward it to them with ease. Usually as soon as you say that, they approve your rebate.

This is the most biased pos I've read here in a while. Frucci should win an award or something. Fanboy of the Year maybe? Very awesomely appropriate for a "journalist".

Note: I have both and have played 360 a lot more but this article is just ridiculous.

@el bryanto: Actually it sounds right to me. The 360 has the better library for the moment. Wi-fi is not a feature at all to me, fine for the Wii where there is little to no actual online play, or the handhelds where it's not practical to put an ethernet port, but on a console that encourages devs and consumers to be online all the time, hard line is the only way to go.

Bluetooth and blu-ray are purely convenience features, Sony had really hoped the latter would carry the PS3 in the opening days, but HD-DVD put up enough of a fight that it floundered until they bought themselves a victory in the format war. Unfortunately, that's given MS and especially Nintendo to gain a much larger foothold in the GAMING market, which Sony seemed to have forgotten was important. Let us not forget this little tidbit from 2006:

They seriously thought that they would still sell consoles without having any games. Well here we are over three years later and there's still very little exclusive to the PS3 that would make it a reasonable purchase, even with the price drop. MGS4, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy really needed to have come out about a year earlier than each did to have made a difference. Even the PSP has a much fuller library than the PS3 right now (of course between Monster Hunter, and FF: Dissidia taking up much of my time, I'm slightly biased there), so it's really time for Sony to stop working the PR and maybe start cranking on some new first party titles to sweeten the library.

@Elranzer: PS3 actually has much higher than 0% fail rate, they were plagued with overheating issues at the beginning. That's why the slim is more like a fan with a motherboard and BR drive than it is a system with a fan.
