LOL, youtube, twitter and what not isn't going to destroy the dictatorship in Iran. From what I've seen it looks like the students in Iran aren't willing to actually fight the thugs in power. Until they're ready to do that they're screwed.
@Yerzriknot: When the thugs have all the guns... and the missiles... and the tanks... there's little hope in fighting them physically. They have to upset the culture there before they can do anything you'd suggest. They have to convince the PEOPLE in the military to not use their guns, and missiles, and tanks else the opposition dies fighting or is killed by Israel along with the conservatives.
@Yerzriknot: Shut the fuck up and educate yourself. Calling for help, and educating the world, is probably the best thing these people can do right now. If they stand up and fight they die faster. Better alive and ready to fight, the dead and useless. If the time comes when they truly do have a fighting chance to win, and not be massacred, then they will fight.
By the way - Thanks Giz. I can see the starred commenter system is working as advertised. As displayed by the brain-trust worthy comment.
@D.E.P.C.: Really? Regular folks getting up and physically confronting their oppressors is exactly how we got out from under the British during the Revolutionary War.
Not that we also didn't have Thomas Paine and others producing material telling the population about the abuse the Brits were perpetrating on the American colonies, but at the end of the day it was the populace arming themselves and fighting the British army that got the job done.
@Hi, I'm God: Lulz, peaceful resistance only works with relatively nice countries. If the Soviet Union had owned India instead of the UK Ghandi and his followers wouldn't have lasted very long.
Next time try being more respectful instead of telling people to "shut the fuck up".
@Yerzriknot: They're photo-taking isn't a direct resistance to the Iranian government. The men in power aren't going to see these photos and have a sudden change of heart. The Iranian people are in the first stages of resistance... the GSFH, or Get Some Fucking Help. They can't win alone. A violent uprise would just be an excuse for their massacre.
The real question is what exactly ARE they fighting for? It seems to me that these students are fighting to replace one Islamic regime with another Islamic regime. Neither of which is kind to the West or the U.S. So it begs the question whether or not any of us should give it shit?
@Noobs-R-Us: I was talking with a friend of mine the other day who came to the US from Iran in the late 60's to escape the Shah's regime. I asked him what the deal was in Iran, and his response was basically this:
Whether it was the Shah and his cronies, or the Islamic government which replaced him, in both cases the leadership were a bunch of uneducated thugs, many of whom can barely read. Iran has not had a government populated by educated people in many decades, and probably won't pull themselves out of their mess until they not only toss out these guys, but replace them with people who are both intelligent and educated.
You can actually download the iPod Touch 3.0 firmware, directly from Apple's servers, and apply it to any Touch you might have. There's absolutely no copy protection at all built into the ipsw file. It's like closing the door, but leaving the window open.
I actually paid for the iPod Touch 3.0 firmware and when I connected a friends iPod Touch to my laptop it turned out he could update it for free. A line ended up forming from people I knew.
I was just in San Francisco, and it was pretty funny to watch people who were clearly natives being really surprised at their cellphones cutting off on Bart.
Very awesome video!
And yeah, just confirming what people said, the guy didn't just pull all this with $300 alone... he has a post production studio in Uruguay.
$300 bucks for the LIVE SHOOTING alone and an year in production.
Here, the details: [forums.cgsociety.org]
$300 my ass.
They spent more than that on the food they consumed while working on something like this for hundreds of hours.
There is a *ton* of work that had to go into something like this.
Creation, modeling, rigging, texturing the models; Animating; Lighting; FX Animation; and Compositing *just* for the CG animation.
Then take into account the Environmental FX, fire, etc.
This was a really, really big undertaking.
(Generally a sequence this big goes to an entire FX house for months at a time, albeit the FX aren't Film quality but fairly close)
@finnigan16: I would definitely agree, but the question would boil down to what was the increased % of intake.
As someone who never ate nearly as much as when I started working at a computer 10hrs/day I woefully admit you increase food intake when you have nothing better to do. :-\
Impressive effects for the budget, but utterly lame build up and progression of scenes.
Seeing the same damn planes flying overhead over and over, and then the same old battles you see in any poorly thought out flight battle. Planes that are way too small flying between buildings and making ridiculous turns.
Aliens that need to slowly walk four massive robots into a city just to nuke it? What?
I'm not saying they didn't do something cool or impressive, but I am regularly amazed at how uncreative/poor writing and direction is in stories like these.
@Hyruu: So I'm not allowed to comment on politics if I'm not a politician? I'm not allowed to have an opinion about movies without being a director?
First off, I have made CG animations before, so I know the time and effort that goes into one. Second, whether or not I can make effects as good as that (and I did compliment the effects), it doesn't change the fact that the story and presentation is cliche and uncreative, and making it less cliche and more creative would have hardly taken that much more effort.
So how about you actually discuss my criticism, instead of posting a cliche and uncreative comment ("Where is your...etc").
@The5thElephant: Seriously all I did was ask. You seemed to know what you were talking about and I wanted to see. Wow do you always just jump to the worst?
@Hyruu: Explain to me how your comment can be construed as a completely innocent request for my video. Because you just love to ask people about their videos?
You know as well as I that type of comment is generally used as a way to criticize someone's criticism by saying that if they haven't done equivalent work they shouldn't judge it.
@ReconToaster misses garnett :(: THAT'S where it came from. I knew it sounded really familiar. Now I don't have to pull my hair out scroung hte web for it. /kudos
@ReconToaster misses garnett :(: And I strongly agree with you. It sounds really cheesy. 28 Days Later music seems totally out of place. Hope they wont "borrow" it again.
I think we can all agree that the $300 number is meaningless. What is important is that this is a homebrew video done without the aid of Hollywood special effects and production capabilities, yet it looks Hollywood quality. I'm particularly impressed with the quality of the lighting how well the rendered robots blend in with the surroundings under different lighting conditions. This guy truly nailed it. Good job.

The guy was barred by the "holy imam" from becoming the next supreme leader.
Also, has had cardiac arrest and wasn't killed.

The IRA managed to be a real thorn in the UK's side and they didn't have any advanced technology.

Upon following said links from a competitors site, this guy own quite the 3d studio and the real cost clocked in around 25K.
Still though. Alvarez kicked ass.
I like the short, especially at the end where the robots wall up for the big one.
The soundtrack ramping up in tandem with the action is great, borrowed or not.
Fry those kiddies! The wicked witch from OZ just had multiple O's.
