Colored Wiis, Redesigned DS: Coming Never

OK, it's a bit dramatic for us to say "coming never," but we shouldn't expect Wiis in multiple snazzy colors (you know, the ones promised by Nintendo when the Wii was announced) or a redesigned DS (it could be RAZR-thin!) anytime soon. Instead, it sounds like Nintendo is more focused on getting each device "into the hands of more people." In layman's terms, that means "making more money selling the crap that you already won't stop buying anyway." [IGN via Maxconsole]

RGBy Lamp is LED Color-Changing Toy for Color Scheme Fanatics

We showed you the impressive RGBy tabletop last year, but designers Makoto Hirahara and Shinya Matsuyama have gone and commercialized a new chameleon color-change lamp. The RBGy lamp is a simple battery-powered gizmo that changes color to match whatever object you've got it sitting on. You simply press to capture, and it copies the color by varying its LED illumination. It's hard to think of a purpose for it, other than impressing your date by matching the moodlighting to her dress... but there are cheaper ways to impress, given that each 2.75-inch steel and plastic lamp costs $199. Sweety is Color-Changing, Squeezable Interactive Stress Gizmo

Designer Haishu Zhang has created the Sweety concept gadget to help soothe away people's stresses. Apparently he's designed to be your 24-hour listener, so I guess you just sound-off in his direction rather than at a real person. And Sweety reacts with graphic patterns and color changes that, um, help you somehow. I'm a little confused how that bit's supposed to work, but I do understand it's interactive mode: when the rage hits you, you can just wrestle and pound the little bugger's soft body. And that's therapy. [Yanko design]

New Zune Colors Make the Beast With Two Black Backs

If you've got time and absolutely nothing better to do, you can graba resource explorer and dive into the Zune software. What would you find? Some images of two new Zunes, both with a black back. The current black 80GB and red 8GB Zunes have a silver back, which are also pictured, so these would be new new. It looks like just bad lighting, but the resource item actually says "black back." We don't know whether these are retail colors or just limited edition Zunes for employees, but we'll probably find out soon. [Zunited News Center]

Creative Zen Getting Bubblegum Pink Makeover

Looks like the Zune isn't the only PMP to be getting a color makeover, Creative's Zen is in on it too. The new model was spotted at Wal Mart, where it is retailing at $69.99 for a 2GB unit, with no other capacities listed. As far as we can tell, the pink Zen is ready for immediate shipping, despite the fact it is not available at Creative's own online store. The new addition has me thinking it is time for a pink gadget in my arsenal; admit it, you want one as well. [Wal Mart via Geek&Hype; Thanks, pickupjojo!]

iPod Nano Getting Purple Paint Job?

This image from a Circuit City advertisement seems to show the iPod nano dressed up in yet another sickening color—this time deep purple. The advertisement was spotted in a circular today, but we have not seen it for ourselves. Has anyone glimpsed a shot of the picture in question? And do we really need purple to add to the list of nauseating colors the iPod nano already comes in? Sentences ending in questions aside, we have seen the iPod shuffle gain a similar purple treatment, so it does not seem imposible. We'll let you know as soon as we hear any official word on the potential update. [Connection Podcast]

Nintendo DS Lite Now in Black and Blue, We Think It's the Sexiest One Yet

Circuit City has a cobalt blue/black DS Lite for preorder on their website. Considering three minutes have passed since the last time the DS got a costume change, this makes perfect sense to us. No word on the release date, but as always, it's $130. Get it now to complete your collection and make Nintendo a few more dollars. [Circuit City] —Thanks, Klaus!

The BlackBerry Curve will launch in two colors on AT&T: Crimson and Titanium. Or as normal people like to call it, red and gray. [Boy Genius via wireless info]

Mustek PF-A1020BC Frame Comes With Changeable Faceplates

If all digital photo frames are starting to look alike, try this Mustek PF-A1020BC with its big 10-inch LCD and swappable frames, coming with silver, "frosted white," or Mahogany faceplates. Pictures should look pretty nice as the 9.5-inch viewable area displays at a 720 x 480 resolution, and you can store around 45 JPEGs thanks to the frame's internal memory. But are the pretty colors going to be able to justify the frame's $200 price tag? More »

Hands-On With Japan's DS Colors

Ashcraft put down Earth Defense Force and ventured out of his damp cave long enough to take a look at Japan's newest colors for the DS Lite. There's the Metallic Rose and Gloss Silver DS Lites, which join the vomitorium orange and lack-of-oxygen blue in Nintendo's "Rob Everyone in Japan" arsenal. Head on over for a gallery. More »

Philips Decides People Like Colorful MP3 Players

We've already covered most of the best items from the Philips Holidays In June show, but we did a little digging and found at least two items that are not at the show. In addition to the Black and Pearl White GoGear SA23 line, Philips will soon add a Light Blue 1GB SA2313 and a Pink 1GB SA2312. I seem to recall some other company deciding that colors are a good idea, especially in that 1GB range. Oh, but these have built-in displays.

Colorware Extends Paintjobs to Zunes

Now that you saw what a great job colorware did on Xbox 360s, you'll be glad to know they now color Microsoft Zunes as well. You can either ship them your Zune and have them color it up for $74, or buy an entirely new one for $325. More »

Pastel USBCell AA Batteries Spares the Life of Peeps, Chocolate Bunnies

Moxio has decided to take their wildly popular USBCell rechargeable USB AA battery and give it some color. These just aren't any colors, they are pastel colors just in time for Easter! This idea sound familiar? It should, Saitek is trying to hock their mice in a similar buy-this-to-put-in-an-Easter-basket fashion. What is the deal with Easter these days? Do you kids really want some gadgets rather than giant chocolate bunnies and peeps that will eventually rot your teeth and intestines? More »

Samsung Ultra Music Phone: Colors Revealed, Probably Match Beyoncé's Underwear

We all knew BeyoncĂ© was fronting Samsung's Ultra Phone, and we all guessed that the dual-screen cell would probably come in red, white, and black (we were so thankful they nixed it in pink), but did we have a clue that it would come in juicy orange and fabulous electric blue? Nope, we'll freely admit that we didn't see that coming and we LOVE it. And yes, we are that shallow. More »

Rumor: Spring Color iPod Shuffles Coming?

Our design-savvy buddy, Josh Spear, was at an Apple store and spotted an employee wearing a grape-purple iPod Shuffle. Apparently it wasn't a case of any type and the employee reportedly didn't have much to say about it. So, is a new line of spring-colored iPod Shuffles on the way? And if so, why would Apple advertise it by having some Apple Store employee wear it around? More »

Pop Art Color Cam

If you have ever wanted to have the inspiration and desire for pop art without the need for LSD or acid (see: Andy Warhol) this cheap-ass camera can do it. The Pop Art Color Cam can reproduce four images, each with a different tint of color. No digital here, folks. This is good old fashion 35mm. At least you won't have to learn how to silkscreen (that is the process Andy Warhol used to create his different colored images ... the more you know). $14. More »

Motorola KRZR Available in Fire-Crotch Red

Motorola will be keeping with their, and everyone elses usual trends of making cellphones available in a rainbow of colors starting with the "Fire" (aka red) Motorola KRZR. This is currently only available in Korea, and no word if this red KRZR has anything to do with the (RED) campaign. It will likely be hitting the states soon. More »
