Traditional SLR cameras are already pretty well designed for comfort and stability. I'm also curious to know how you get this thing mounted on a tripod.
This is not to say that there might not be room for improvement, but I dont think this design is it.

But before I read the article, I actually took Giz's joke about it being for gamers seriously, and my mind started to fly. Imagine a "game" that actually tried to guide you through different types of photography and thus, by requiring the user to seek out various types of photographs, can kindle creativity and produce some theoretically pretty cool results in the hands of non-artistic type users. Meaning, place the user in an environment and have the game ask the user to go out and photograph something with a curve running alongside the bottom of the frame. The user can select "scenarios" or "challenges" using the grip controls and the screen on the back is used to try to explain what the game is asking for. Once the user takes a photo, the camera runs some image processing (think like facial recognition processing, but with lines/curves or colors instead), determines if the user met the general guidelines, and then uploads the result to the user's Flickr account. A DSLR-sized sensor means the photos could actually be worth something.

Maybe I'm not getting where the designer went after, as I'm no pro photographer myself.
But I gotta say it doesn't look good.
There are too many problems with it.
Pressing the shutter button on that handle will certainly cause way more shaking than if it was on top.
Balance will probably be way harder to manage as the lens is the heaviest part of the cam, and worse: as you change lenses, the weight will change.
There's a reason why we rest them on one hand.
I see the designer was trying to make something more practical to take pics holding the camera up, but it doesn't solve anything.
In fact, I think it'll be even harder to guess where you're aiming at with a handle like that.
A firm rubberized grip might not fit in your hand as nicely as that handle, but it's not supposed to.
It's a grip you use your fingers to grasp because that produces steadier shots.
Also: moving parts. There are always tons of problems with moving parts like those handles. Tripods are good examples.
But you know, there's always chance some photographers or some type of photography could use something like that...

Have fun balancing an actual lens on that camera, buddy. And making sure all your shots aren't pointed at a downward angle.
This goes beyond creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. This creates a problem where there currently is none.

This wasn´t ment to be a controller.
This is a BOOMERANG DSLR.
Must be the most f***ed up video ever when recording while throwing.
