You are going to want memory foam side-bolsters too if you're going to keep the projector (unless it's got a floating mount which would be a lot of unessential tech for a job the memory foam could do) because every little shift you do while sitting is going to jostle the hard mounted projector.
and you'd better have deep carpeting too. This thing would slide all over on burbur or any shallow carpet or woven rug. #conceptmediachairiphoneprojector...
It may not be able to recline or swivel but it looks like the surface if the seating area would be covered in vinyl instead of fabric. That definitely will make it easier to wipe down the hours of sweaty gamer funk which will no doubt accumulate in this chair. #conceptmediachairiphoneprojector...
Too bad that they kept a great deal of gimmickry in the final product. This is probably one of the worst designs I've seen to come out of Dell, which is especially unfortunate because it has some really nice details, like the keyboard area, trackpad and the overall fit and finish. The recessed display and overhang/kickstand ass-end just make this thing plain fugly and ungainly to use as a regular laptop. The inclined keyboard looks like total shit to use for any extended period of time, but given the machine's terrible battery life, I guess that would not be much of a problem if you actually do attempt to take this thing out and about.
I will say this though. I hope Dell filters some of the nicer design elements down to its more budget-friendly products, because I feel that their lower end stuff just looks flat out chintzy, even the more expensive XPS systems, when observed in person.
@Duckspwn: Loves Approving Reds: Unless the 3 second scan they did was that of a female's brain activity, you are looking at what furniture would look like if you are thinking about sex since guys think about sex every 3 seconds. #brainwavecouch
@Dr. H. F. Danger: Yep. I find this thing very ugly. I'm going to be a little embarrassed for the first person I see using one of these at Starbucks. Assuming they sell any.
I've never been a fan of the MacBook Air, but for god sake's people, if you're going to buy a super slim laptop, get something other than an Adamo. #delladamoxpsprototypes
I'm really not surprised. The concept shown above is the kind of product a Chinese megafacturer could sell at $400 wholesale. There's no way it would have been half as economical as the XO. OLED and eInk, flexible displays, are about at the stage that LCD computer monitors were in early-to-mid 90s. You see it Popular Science and on the Discovery channel, but it'll be a good decade before it's really prevalent in your home.
And yes, my prognostication may be quite a bit off. But let's face it, they've been demoing this stuff for the last five years and we have only a dozen or so consumer products to show for it. And they sure aren't cheap enough for the average Ugandan 4th grader.
@Markarian: Exactly. I have an XO-1 and it's great for what it is. I'd be totally up for a transflective waterproof tablet like they're talking about, but the dualscreen XO idea just baffled me - it's like they went from trying to make a laptop for under $100 to giving up on that and trying to compete with Apple for the next slickest gadget. #olpcxo2
You could argue that laptops are already "disposable" - they just last for a few years while disposable cameras last for X number of shots. #disposablelaptop
I think Laptops are way too much of a personal item to have throwaways... It's hard to make a camera "yours", so it's easy to have a detachment to the product, unless of course you have a bedazzler and rein stone the shit out of it.
Throwing away a laptop or desktop, to me, is like euthanizing your dog... #disposablelaptop
Well, disposable cameras made sense because a camera takes a set number of pictures before you have to change the film reel(this is before digital cameras, obviously), so they did away with the need to do so by making them single use. You could then get the pictures out of it and be done with it.
What's the set number of things you do with a laptop before needing to mess with it somehow? What permanence is there to anything you did on said laptop once it's disposed of? Are they expecting some kind of laptop developing stores that will rip out the harddrive and throw the data on a flash drive or something?
I just don't see the equivalent uses that would complete the analogy between this and a disposable camera, and thus make this worthwhile. #disposablelaptop
