America Still Plays More PS2 Than Xbox 360 and Wii Combined |

but i still play my sega [earthworm jim, toejam and earl] and my atari 2600 when i feel nostalgic. sure, riddle of the sphinx is looking a little green and there's no sound on maze craze anymore, but it's a good break to remind me to appreciate the graphics on the old final fantasy games.
do i have anything newer than my ps2? nah, i haven't run out of decent games for under $10 yet.

It's part of what's keeping them poor.

Considering Ken Kutaragi's (in)famous boast that the next generation doesn't begin until Sony says it does, the slow lingering death of the PS2 just highlights the lack of leadership or faith at SCEA in the PS3 as a video game platform.

They made new games go to 360 so xbox users switched, and the 360 got a nice, big library of games early on.
I played maybe 2 xbox games the first year with the 360, tops. Then I sold the original one. My PS2, on the other hand, I still use from time to time and I really don't see a need for a PS3 (no HDTV).

The PS3 is a victim of it's own hype. By billing itself as a supercharged graphics powerhouse, many people don't want the perceived added expense of an HDTV and a surround sound system.
There are still new games coming out on PS2.

It's more of a time delay for people to adapt new platforms.
Trust me when I say this, people are still using old Intel's P4 PC today.
People can't move fast as the technology growth does.

God of War II could have sold consoles. Instead, SCEA let the developers whine their way into programming it for the PS2 by claiming that it was just so much easier to make games for the old system.
Sony had three killer apps during the XBox 360 era: Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, and God of War II. If these games were pushed to the PS3 platform, they would have sold consoles. Instead, they were released on the PS2 platform - giving people a good reason to stick with an old system.
These PS2 sales are replacements. On top of that, with a recession, the choice between a $400 console and a $125 console is the reason that the PS3 is doing poorly.
