And this Sony OLED laptop concept has some serious potential.

Part of their new Contrast concept line, the bioplastic device features three fundamental (related) technologies: OLED, touch, and physical flexibility. The laptop can function as laptops do now, or with a button press, the touch keyboard can disappear, doubling the screen size.

While the laptop is a concept, apparently it is being prototyped in Sony's labs. Fit it on our wrist, Sony, and our heart is yours. [Sony Insider]

<![CDATA[Sony Shows Bravia TVs with 1,000,000:1 Contrast, Due in October]]> As well as crazy thinness, Sony's other upcoming TV releases include crazy contrast: one million to one. The XR1 series of Bravia's will be 1920 x 1080 pixel full-HD models, featuring tri-color RGB LED backlighting for an improved color gamut, and dynamic switching backlighting tech to generate that enormous contrast ratio (it's about 3,000:1 in static mode.) There's a 10-bit Bravia 2 Engine processing the images inside, with separate algorithms for SD and HD picture sources, 120Hz Motionflow tech to improve smoothness, the usual range of connectors plus an extra USB port for connecting digital cameras. The XR1 will be in 46- and 55-inch sizes, for around $5,500 and $6,800, due October 10 in Japan at first. Check out that contrast in the pic, comparing it to the PSP Lite: Game playing in brightly-lit situations looks like it won't be a problem with the new machine. In other pics you can see the redesign has other minor changes, like a slightly more curved profile at the edges near the control pads... whether this makes for more comfortable handling will have to wait for a hands-on review. <![CDATA[LG's 10000:1 Contrast Ratio Monitor]]> Most of us might find a 10000:1 contrast ratio monitor from LG with Digital Fine Contrast technology overkill for writing Facebook entries or watching YouTube, but college students—who watch full-length pirated movies on their computer every day—will find this extremely useful.

And since a higher contrast ratio means blacks are much blacker (though, sometimes losing out on gray detail), and whites are much brighter, this 10000 to 1 means there's a big difference between the black and white parts of your screen. makes it so that you can easily tell the difference between dark gray, gray, coal, charcoal and dust, it's perfect for picking out the right shade of carpet as well. Not that we would have charcoal carpet. What are we, animals? No price or release date yet. [T3 via Crunchgear]
