First Intel Mobile Quad-Core Processor Coming Soon (Zoooom)
In addition to bragging about how awesome and zippy (while only power-sippy) Centrino 2 is, Intel execs also slipped that they'd be launching a set by the end of the quarter with their first mobile quad-core processor. Thanks to its hardcore power management on the Centrino 2, you'll actually be able to run four cores with more than 15 minutes of battery life. Also, Centrino 2 with integrated graphics will be available in "the coming weeks" after suffering some explode-y problems, leading to its initial delay. [PC Mag]

Intel's Centrino 2 Gets Official Launch, Alongside Core 2 Extreme
We learned in May that there would be delays to Intel's Centrino 2 chipset for notebooks, but today it gets an official launch from Intel. That certainly tallies with the slew of notebooks hitting the news which have the chips inside. Alongside the Centrino 2, Intel gives us word on the Core 2 Extreme, which runs at 3.06 GHz and the Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset and wireless Intel Wi-Fi Link 5000, and the WiMAX/Wi-Fi Link 5050 chipset that supports the Centrino 2 to support WiMax and Wi-Fi operations. Sub-$500 128GB Drive from OCZ May be the SSD You've Been Saving For
OCZ's new Core Series SSD's are designed to be large and affordable. So the new 2.5-inch SATA II flash drives are coming in 128GB, 64GB and 32GB sizes at $479, $259 and $169 respectively. They don't match up to the 200Mbps read speeds Samsung has promised—managing 135Mbs— but that price point is pretty low. And while they're too big to drop into the smallest laptops (MacBook Air owners will weep), they might be just the ticket for people looking to cheaply upgrade to SSD—OCZ claim ten times faster than their HDDs and half the power. Intel Launching Cheap Quad Core Processors to Battle Budget AMD Triple Cores
Digitimes is reporting that Intel is about to pop a series of cheap quad core processors (Q8000) to slap back at AMD's budget triple core offerings. The first will be the Core 2 Quad 8200, which'll run at 2.33GHz with a 4MB L2 cache, supporting a front-side bus of up to 1333MHz for around $200. Difference between these and standard Q9000 series is that these don't support Intel's Trusted Execution or Virtualization Technology. More »

We already heard the details, but it was still hard to wrap our head around why Apple would make an operating system without many visible features and just go and change architecture around. He explains that they're doing it because programmers don't know WTF is going on with parallel processing.

AMD Quad-Core Phenom X4 9850 Reviewed (Verdict: Owned by Intel Quad Cores)
The Phenom X4 9850 is at the top of AMD's latest heap of quad-core Phenoms. It's free of the performance-sapping bug that plagued the first batch of Phenoms, and AMD hopes it'll claw back some ground from Intel. Details Emerge on Intel's First Mobile Quad-core Processor
Chinese-language site HKEPC is reporting that Intel's first mobile quad-core processor will be the 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Extreme QX9300. The chip will clock speeds of 2.53 GHz, have 12 MB of L2 Cache and 1066 MHz FSB. The QX9300, however, won't be part of the Q2 Centrino 2 launch because it is a 45W processor and current motherboards are designed for 35W chips. [HKEPC via Register Hardware]

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale Processor Tested (Verdict: "Recommended")
The chaps over at Hot Hardware have put the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 processor, which belongs to the (45nm) Wolfdale line, through its paces, and they sure were impressed. From their extensive testing, the processor, intended for desktop machines and ideal for gaming especially, did not seem to make any massive changes on an architectural level, however, small adjustments had a great overall effect on performance. The 6MB of L2 cache brought an impressive speed boost, while the power consumption and heat production levels both fell. More »

Remove the antenna, battery and print board, chuck the bio-plastic and bamboo body of the phone on the compost heap, and in a few weeks, bamboo seeds inside the phone will grow and turn your former communication device into a bamboo shoot.
