Solid Alliance Silver Cross USB Drive is Holy Data Bank, for Goth Jewelry Geeks

Solid Alliance's newest USB thumbdrive will either appeal to geeky clergy-types, or vampire-goth-geek types, since it's an ornate metallic silver-colored drive that comes in a cross-shaped caddy. And it's specifically designed to hang on a necklace. Bizarre: both markets for this product can't be all that big, can they? Still, this gizmo might even contain real silver, since the 2GB drive costs $180. If that's too rich for your blood, there's a brass-colored one, also 2GB, for $145. [Akihabaranews]

Ford Blind Spot System Uses Radar to Save your Ass

Ford is going to introduce two new traffic alert systems in their 2009 cars: the Cross Traffic Alert and the Blind Spot Monitoring System, which will alert drivers of potential collision targets using radar technology. Which these new gadgets, instead of having to check the mirror and ignore any cars coming from behind before changing lane, drivers would be able to check a red light that will warn about any incoming vehicles, even if they are hiding in the blind spot. And then, ignore them and change lanes. Example: my radar is saying that there's a press release after the jump. More »

Soldier Uses Body to Shield Comrades from Grenade Blast, Survives Thanks to Backpack

When a British soldier on patrol in Afghanistan set a rigged grenade off by mistake, his first thought was for the safety of his comrades. So, in order to protect them, Lance-Corporal David Croucher dived on the grenade and turned on his side, with only a backpack—containing a first-aid kit, 66-millimeter rocket and radio equipment—and his body armor to protect him. Seconds later, the booby-trap exploded. More »

Mobiblu Nanum MP3 Player Converts From Cross to Cube

Mobiblu's known for their six-sided Cube MP3 players, but this Nanum is the first one we've seen that actually deconstructs from a cube into a cross. We're not sure what good having a flat cross-shaped MP3 player would be, but these things are seriously tiny. Tiny. Peep the gallery after the jump to see it photographed next to objects that you're familiar with. Seriously, it's so small that we can see someone being able to choke on it. More »

The cross may be a symbol of ultimate devotion to countless Christians around the world, but let's be honest, the design hasn't seen an update in like 2000 years. And people are hard on Apple products! That's why here at the Gizmodo chapel (of love), we're really incredibly excited about the Blue LED Cross. More »

Target, Red Cross First Aid Kit

Everyone knows you haven't lived until a Black Cat has exploded in the palm of your hand, preferable with the fist closed. Sure you can pour water on the wound and try to clean it up before going to the hospital, but this first aid and preparedness kit from Target should do the trick this fourth when your hands are burned to a crisp. This kit includes whistles, dust masks, duct tape, a poncho, a radio, a color book and even more. It sounds more like a detox kit rather than a first aid kit, but whatever. More »
