Photoshop CS 4 Might Hit in October With GPU Acceleration After All

Over the holiday weekend (yep, I was slaving over a keyboard, not a grill, just for you) it came out via TGDaily that the next version of Photoshop would rock general-purpose GPU acceleration for serious performance gains and come out in October. Adobe's John Nack said it was hooey. TGDaily responds today that during the tech demo, "Nack was running an alpha version of Stonehenge, which is, according to Nack, the code-name of the next-generation Photoshop." The natural assumption is the features will stick around in the final version. More »

Photoshop CS 4 Will Use Your Graphics Card to Run at Light Speed, Do Fancy 3D Tricks

The next version of Photoshop (CS 4) will be juicing up performance by taking advantage of hardware it hasn't tapped before: graphics cards and physics processors. How much faster is the new 64-bit, GPU-injected Photoshop? At a demo at Nvidia's HQ, TG Daily watched "the presenter playing with a 2 GB, 442 megapixel image like it was a 5 megapixel image on an 8-core Skulltrail system. Changes made through image zoom and through a new rotate canvas tool were applied almost instantly." Update: John Nack from Adobe is calling bogus on some of TGDaily's info, namely the Oct. release date and says the demoed tech is not "promised to go into any particular version of Photoshop." So take it for what you will. More »

Asus Essentio CS5110 Is World's Smallest PC (With Fully Embedded Discrete Graphics, That Is)

I'm not sure there's room enough to install one of these bad boys, but Asus' new little desktop is supposedly the world's smallest PC that can still support a fully embedded discrete graphics card for gaming and high-def video. With HDMI and 7.1 audio output, it could make a nice Blu-ray player. Because of a thermal cooling module that "insulates heat from the cooling fan," it manages to idle at a relatively low 24dB noise level. Still, it's not super small, at 11 inches wide by 3 inches tall, and besides that, sources don't say exactly what graphics card Asus chose to fully embed. We do like that satin-finish codex design, though. [Fareastgizmos.com]

Ziovia Announces ClearStream C615 HD Network Media Player

The ClearStream CS615 really has lots to boast about—jump for the impressive specifications. More »

Nerf Sniper Rifle is Three Feet of Fun

The Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6, to give it its full name, is the kind of blaster gun that your kid would kill for. It's also the kind of thing that would be a gift in name only, because, any child will have problems prying it out of a parent's hands once unwrapped. And it works just as well at close range as it does on long targets: More »

Ziova Streaming DVD/DivX Player Gets Firmware Update

The Ziova CS505 we reviewed earlier this year just got a firmware update, adding features like a GUI redesign, commercial skip and some other minor details you can find in the changelog. It's not a major update in terms of functionality, but as you can see from the gallery, it looks totally different. Much more bubble-y than before, and supposedly much more responsive. We don't have a unit to test on, but if you do you can load it yourself to check it out. More »

Ziova CS505 Upscaling DivX/DVD Network Streamer Hands-on: Our Favorite Player Yet

We've been known to download DivX files using BitTorrent on occasion, and there's nothing better than using an upscaling DVD player like the Helios H4000, the LG DN191H or the Oppo DV-981HD to watch these shows and movies on our TVs in high def. But the Ziova CS505, much like the Helios X3000, can stream the files directly from your computer without having to burn them to a disc beforehand—the ultimate in convenience. More »

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta Available December 15

We don't usually care about software releases, but Adobe's Photoshop seems to be one of the major software releases holding back Intel Mac sales because there hasn't been a Universal Binary version. And laptops/PCs are something we do care about. More »
