The Price: $39.99

The Verdict: Alright. It does what it says, which is giving you a small cushion between your laptop and your thighs. It's better than a normal pillow because it's flat, and gives adequate airflow for proper ventilation. The little hiding hole is enough for you to shove your iPod, wallet, or various computer accessories into, but it's really meant for you to put your laptop into for storage when you're not using it.

The only thing we have a problem with is the price. $40 seems to be too high for something like this (it was listed incorrectly as $64.99 on their press release) when you can get something like the Kangaroom Bamboo Laptop station for $45. Or, you can wait for Belkin's other laptop cooling devices like the Cooling Lounge, which cost the same but have a fan on board for extra ventilation. [Belkin]

Update: The version commenters are seeing at Costco for $19 is actually the previous design, not this current one which retails for $39.

<![CDATA[ Thanko's Lazy Geek's Cushion, Perfect for Prone PC Action ]]> Ages ago I admitted to being a floor-lounger, and it looks like Thanko has come up with a solution that'll let me combine lazing around and blogging for the Giz at the same time. I might rename it from Lazy Geek's Cushion to "Relaxed Blogger's Desk" though. Looking a little like a massage table, it's 31 x 19 inches across, and can be propped up at a variety of angles from flat to about 30 degrees so your arms reach your notebook... and see that little space for your chin? Looks comfy. No info on pricing, but I'd love to import one. I'd just have to persuade my wife that it's a good idea, and not ugly at all. [Akihabaranews]

<![CDATA[ Air Conditioned Seat Cushion Features The Latest In Eco-Friendly Ass-Cooling Technology ]]> Kuchofuku, the same company that brought us air conditioned shirts, has re-applied their groundbreaking technology in an effort to deliver us from one of the biggest problems facing mankind today. Of course, I am speaking about ass sweat. In fact, their air conditioned seat cushion line can pump up to 170 liters of air per minute through the seat using an extraordinarily low amount of electricity in the process.

Apparently, the energy consumption of the device is so low that you could run it every day for eight hours and only pay the equivalent of around five cents extra on your electricity bill for the month. However, this isn't the first time we have come across an air conditioner of this type—Thanko came out with a version last year that is powered via USB. It also appears to be a little cheaper than the Kuchofuku model, but we are not sure how well it stacks up in terms of butt cooling performance and power consumption. <![CDATA[ Pump-Up Laptop Cushion Keeps Burning Metal Away From Tender Flesh ]]> The laptop stands we've used are great for keeping your supple thighs away from your burning laptop, but are usually fairly heavy and hard on your legs. This Airboard, however, has an inflatable base to gently sit on your lap, while at the same time providing ample distance so your leg hairs don't char. It's only a design, but is neat enough that if someone made a laptop stand like this, we'd have a hard time passing it up in stores. [Yanko Design]

<![CDATA[ ZipZip Floor Cushions Zip Together For Sofa Fun ]]> I admit it: I'm a frequent floor-lounger ... so these interlocking cushions from Pling Collection would be ideal furniture for me. ZipZip's 30-inch upholstered pads have zips on all four sides, you see. So you can choose to make one huge floor cover, for, you know, generalized laying about, or combine them more sensibly into different chair-shaped things. Special pads even have a hole for a planter or a stowage pocket: handy for TV remotes, I reckon. Think of the possibilities!

Ah... I can picture sitting on them now. Designed by Sternform Produktgestaltung, they're made of Loden, which is 100% new wool, and come in four colors ranging from light gray to dark sand. Sadly, it's "price on application" time, so I suspect they might damage my wallet before they soothed my aching limbs. [Plingcollection via ApartmentTherapy]

<![CDATA[ Thanko's USB Warmer Cushion Warms Your Humps, Your Humps, Your Humps ]]> The girl in the picture may look like she has just let one rip, but she is in fact enjoying the heat emitted from Thanko's USB Warmer Cushion.

In case you are in any doubt about what the USB Warmer Cushion does; it is a cushion that you connect to your powered USB port, which will then raise the temperature of your web surfing bum. Thankfully, we never actually need to get off our seat and so our rears remain warm throughout the year. However, if you manage to occassionaly leave your seat and find it turns your goolies into brass monkey nuts on your return, well, the $25.83 price could not be more reasonable. [Sci Fi Tech]

<![CDATA[ Google News Cushion is Enlightening, Embarrassing ]]> The Google News Cushion is a standard couch pillow that's been printed with the top Google News stories of the year. It's a microcosm, in plush, pillow form, of the collective human experience on planet Earth. For instance, what news did we search most in 2003?

Kobe Bryant, Brittany Spears, Shakira, and 50 Cent. 2005 found itself riddled with trifles like "tsunami" and Hurricane Katrina, but it's promising to know that even in the face of such tragedies, Man still found time to search for Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Britney Spears again...Needless to say, the pillow becomes a greatest hits list for everything that truly matters in the world.

2003 will run you a steep $250, with other years costing a slightly more reasonable $120. Each pillow is signed for authenticity that it's expensive. [product via bltd]

<![CDATA[ Cushion Control: Channel Changing Via Rump ]]> The Cushion Control is a design by Didier Nicholas, urging man to ditch the efficiency of handheld control for panty pillow fights. And who can argue with logic like that?

The control is necessarily basic, with each cushion assigned one function (such as volume, power and channel). Details like how the remotes will actually work are glossed over (though I don't see an IR port housed in the stitching). But we love the idea nonetheless, if only so we can annoy our significant others with even more remotes filling our living room. That is, until we pick up the bus-sized universal edition.

<![CDATA[ Papa Bert's World Famous Sippin' Seat ]]> assjuice.jpgOnly a sick freak named 'Papa Bert' would make something like this. The "Sippin' Seat" is a stadium seat that contains a 750mL bladder to hold liquid. A spout allows for easy pouring so you don t have to take your sweaty rear off the seat to enjoy the nectar below. It may just be me, but drinking out of my cheaply made seat cushion doesn t seem very appealing. Well at least you can easily sneak your own alcohol into stadiums. Ass-sweat Colada anyone?
