I had my daughter on line at 9 months old. She is now a middle schooler and last night I caught her on line doing simulated brain surgery. My, my how they grow up fast.
@92BuickLeSabre: I had not yet read down to your comment when I posted a not dissimilar reply to a comment near the top. Still, unlike you, we didn't get a Speak & Spell until after I had graduated. Unfair. When I was born all I had to play around with was MS-DOS and Windows 2.0.
I have bad memories of messing around with config.sys and autoexec.bat just to be able to play Betrayal at Krondor. Unfortunately, I could never get the right combination of memory settings to be able to play that game.
@everybody: Yeah, yeah, all you whiny asses can gripe as much you want about your poor-me computer systems. But when I was born all I had was an Etch-a-Sketch. With one knob broken off. Shared with 60 kids. At my one-room schoolhouse. Which I walked to daily. 10 miles away. Through the snow. Uphill. Each way. Wearing hand-me-down flip-flops. In pink. In his daily dispatches for WiReD, court correspondent Oscar Schwartz swoons over the boyish charm of "likeable" and "winning" Pirate Bay PR guy Peter Sunde. But there seems to be something about Pirate Bay that no one wants you to read: its debt to one of the most notorious fascists in Europe.
@josecardozo: Ok, you'll forgive me if I don't want to go hunting the internet for the point. I read your article, and another linking off of it that talked about this guy Lundstrƶm, and I don't understand what the problem is. I mean, literally, I don't know the guy, so I'd like to give you a chance to explain what the connection is, and why it makes The Pirate Bay a shady evil organization as opposed to an openly rebellious one.
While I'm known for my sarcasm, I really am asking....
...*Before* I get on your case for tarnishing a genuinely awesome story with a suspicious and gossipy-sounding story about a guy who's questionable acts have nothing to do with the community that sent this nice lady flowers.
@Kaiser-Machead: I like you too Kaiser. ;) Be sure and tell that to your lady the next time you give her flowers and watch her face. If you are not currently attached, find yourself a nice Virgo; she will keep you on your toes!
@Jrsy Devil's Food CakeĀ®: We ladies love that. First because we get flowers and second because we get the envy of all the other ladies we work with since we got flowers. Win/Win.
@Curves: It's funny you should say that. A couple of years ago I sent her flowers on V-day. None of the other women in the office got anything from their husbands or boyfriends. Needless to say they had their share of comments to say about it. I'm sure the ears of their significant others were not only burning but bleeding as well on that day..
@Nick Dina: Technically, they merely made exact copies of the flowers in the gardens of the record execs - however, you can bet that it will be called "theft" in court.
@Monty: and now they are gonna have a key witness to testify that because those flowers were picked from their garden they will no longer win "garden of the month" and instead have to settle for "nicest grass." and obviously that doesn't come with a parking spot at the country club.
@Nick Dina: I would actually argue that piracy is not so much "stealing from the rich" as it is "stealing from the poor". Media executives and artists who are paid millions of dollars are a tiny, tiny minority in the recording industry. Most people are technicians, agents or sales people who for the most part, are not paid that much. The people who actively pirate things in the US are obviously skilled at computers, implying that they are well-educated and hence, likely to be richer than the average recording industry worker.
Of course, there are arguments about piracy helping overall social welfare of the whole population, boosting CD sales, etc. Also, the premise I assumed is that "piracy = stealing", which may also be arguable.
@Hello Mister Walrus: well, i would actually argue that the little guy gets paid either way. that guy gets a hourly wage, not a profit sharing plan. he does his job and gets out. and i pirated your bucket good sir.
It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature. You know she's gonna be pissed when she finds out that some of her copyrighted works have been re-distributed..
@Nick Dina: "well, i would actually argue that the little guy gets paid either way. that guy gets a hourly wage, not a profit sharing plan. he does his job and gets out."
But if businesses become less profitable, they scale back. This means that some little guys will get fired, even if the others still get paid by the hour.
Looks like a kitten version of "Survivor." I hope the last kitten standing gets some sort of prize to make the whole ordeal and media exposure worthwhile.

When I was little all I had was Speak & Spell and access to a typewriter.
My "computer class" at school was on a TRS-80.
My "fancy friends" in sixth grade? Commodore 64.
Didn't even get my first email address until I got to college.
