They're obviously not going after serious photographers by making this hot-shoe mountable. I take a lot of photos with an off camera flash, but I'd have to take this thing off if I wanted to do some walk-around photos with my SB-600 or SB-800.

    That's a deal-breaker in my book.

Too bad Nikon doesn't offer Bluetooth connectivity in their newer cameras. Now THAT would be killer.

@Ripley29: My reply/comment above probably hadn't posted yet as you were writing yours. Nikon says, "Attaches to camera's accessory shoe or a camera strap via strap adapter GP1-CL1"

    Hotshoe mounted? WTF?

So I guess users are relegated to using the on camera flash or using the IR trigger on an off camera flash. Frankly this wasn't very well thought out.

@SgtBeavis: Actually you don't have to use the hot shoe. From Nikon's site:

Attachment: Attaches to camera's accessory shoe or a camera strap via strap adapter GP1-CL1

Looks to be a good studio camera, pro-AF, good base ISO (100/50), high-MP count.

I'm sure many people will say the D3 is better because its high-ISO performance, low-noise in low-light, etc but those people are missing the point.

Good pro equipment does what its designed to do extremely well. Both the D3 and D3x do their respective duties excellently.

@Scaramanga: well said... too many people bash one product model versus another based on feature set alone. The seem to forget that various models are designed to appeal to certain duty requirements and applications.

Some people bash my D70, versus other models, but in the price range (when purchased) it had the feature set that covered the range of needs I had at the time. It's been an outstanding camera that still serves me well.

The D3 and D3x are way beyond my range, but both look to be amazing cameras.

@winmac: Ummm, it's digital. It's just designed to shoot in situations where you'd have previously used a multi-format camera.

I wonder if my old Vivitar 135mm lens would fit that?

@CafeRacer1200: While it may fit, you would lose a great deal of the DSLR feature set including auto focus, auto ISO, metering, and countless others. Not a deal breaker, probably, but certainly diminishing the gadgety-ness of the D3x in the process.
