    If only 25 have been detected, how did anyone come to the conclusion that there are 3,000 around? Space is big. Unbelievably big. It's so terribly mind-boggingly big, so it's possible that there's lots more.

    I'm quite sure the number is not an estimated total in our known universe but rather the number in a proximity of our solar system that may possibly pose a threat.

    @poisonfist: Well didn't really mean the universe, since that would be billions in just the galaxy. But be that as it may, 3,000 still sounds a tad arbitrary.
