unless it makes the key tapping noises like an old school typewriter than i don't want it. and i love the feel of typing on an old typewriter. the way the keys resist and then give in reminds me of prom night all over again.
@Kaiser-Machead: Art Deco isn't limited to piano black and polished chrome. See: The Chrysler Building. Brass can also be tastefully used in Art Deco design, but at least now we'll be moving away from straps, (intentional) tarnish, and rust.
@s0crates82: Oh I know, and have seen it, but Steampunk likes its copperish brassy piping everywhere, with ducts that lead to more ducts, which lead to nowhere.
@.357 Wishes Everyone A Happy 420: Nice try, i was at that car show and the guy leaning against the car on the driver side front is the actual owner. His name is Bob...Bob had bitch tits.
@OMG! Ponies!: I'm assuming you meant more DIStasteful than any regular ass normal keyboard out there. I'll let this one slide but watch yourself man...
@OMG! Ponies!: If there's one thing dell keyboards have going for them, it's sturdiness. As an acquaintance of mine once said, you could beat someone to death with a dell keyboard, then use it to write their obituary.
As far as taste goes, it's entirely relative, but I happen to like the dell keyb more than most. Mostly because of its nearly non-existent bezel and whatnot, but also because it doesn't try to be anything special.
@pettiblay: Cut him some slack, he's rather distraught that Gizmodo is happily celebrating the birthdays of both Hitler and Joey Lawrence so openly and brazenly. Especially on the day in which the UN racism conference kicks off and is being boycotted by several countries over what they perceive to be a slight against Israel.
@planetarian: Dell keyboards are flimsy pieces of crap... you want sturdy get an IBM Model M, those f**kers are indestructible and carry plenty of heft.
So is steampunk basically a synonym for "Victorian"? Because I would imagine for something to be steampunk, it would have to involve steam (or faux steam machinery) and a punk element of some kind.
@closhedbb: Not _everything_ has to be steam-driven. This, in particular, would be human-powered by design, so there's no need for the keyboard itself to have any steam-powered component, unless that's how it would be designed to transmit the commands to the steam-powered computer.
A long time ago, I operated a Western Union Telex machine to transmit messages arund the world, and the keyboard looked very much like this one. I had to strike the keys hard enough to punch holes in a tape and have been abusing keyboards with heavy keystrokes ever since.
@flaxseed: Gaslamp Fantasy? That's how the Foglios refer to Girl Genious, which they've said they sorta borrowed from the title of the excellent Gotham By Gaslight graphic novel.
