Lenovo Apologizes for X200 SSD Mixup with a Free 64GB SSD

A lot of people (one of my friends included) jumped on a mixup on Lenovo's site that appeared to let you pack a 128GB SSD drive in an X200 for the tasty price of $0. It was a mistake and they're not honoring it (boo), but to make up for it, they are offering everyone who ordered it a free 64GB SSD. It's not quite as awesome as completely owning their boo-boo, but it's damn close. The one catch is that you have to get back to them by August 11, or your order will be canceled. Moral of the story: Taking advantage of big companies totally pays off.

There is an alternate universe where I just rented a Betamax (Casino Royale, of course) from Hollywood Video. On my way home, I pop in a MiniDisc (probably to listen to this year's very successful, non-creepy Michael Jackson album which is, like, sooo good). But when I finally arrive at my place, I realize that I'd, of course, already bought Casino Royale on UMD. Hell, I could probably even dig up a copy recorded from TV on my 8mm Video Walkman, too. How silly!

Yeah, that's almost $800 under Sony Style's price. And yeah, it's still an 11-inch screen. But one you'll want to lick, it's so saturated and thin. If you were already eyeing an XEL-1 for the bathroom I'm guessing the $800 isn't a huge issue, but as Taco Bell says, "why pay more?" No word on where this shot is from, so call your Club before heading out. Also good to know you can apparently pick up an eye exam at the same location, once the colors burn into your retinas. Lenovo Webstore Mistake Makes X200's 128GB SSD Option Cheaper Than 80GB HD

Get your orders in now, because you won't see a 128 GB SSD going for these prices, well, anywhere for several years—yet alone inside the tasty 12.1" Thinkpad X200. Yes, you're seeing it correctly—that's subtract $70 from the total, which comes to $1,434 with the mistake. Also notice the 64 GB SSD going for a real-world $830 premium. No word on how IBM will handle the mistake of course, but if you were planning on buying an X200 anyway, might as well give this a try and play dumb. UPDATE: Party's over, unfortunately. The 120GB SSD option has been yanked.

The Consumerist just uncovered a new deal in the works by Comcast to give away Wiis to new subscribers. Whoa. Their deal, which runs on a limited supply basis, is supposedly good from July 28 to August 17 in the Miami, SF, Houston, Denver, Chicago, Philly, Boston and Detroit areas (among others). If you're looking to change over to Comcast, call them up on July 28 and ask about this deal to get a free Wii. There should be actual ads going out about this soon as well, so keep an eye out. After spending $5 million of the city's tax dollars on high-tech, self-cleaning public toilets and then watching them quickly devolve into disgusting havens for just about every urban deviance imaginable, the city of Seattle is trying to cut their losses by vending all five of them on eBay where they can be yours for $89,000 each, discarded crack pipes not included.

In theory, the toilets' self-cleaning mechanism is capable of spraying down the whole interior with water jets and detergent every day, but the drainage systems quickly became clogged with trash, rendering them completely useless. Drug fiends and prostitutes were also fond of the 20-minute auto-locking doors, but the depravity quickly became too much for everyone, says the NYTimes:

“I’m not going to lie: I used to smoke crack in there,” said one homeless woman, Veronyka Cordner, nodding toward the toilet behind Pike Place Market. “But I won’t even go inside that thing now. It’s disgusting.”

Warner Bros. Cutting Blu-ray Movie Prices This Fall

Is this is it? The beginning of decent Blu-ray movie prices? Warner Bros. is going cut prices on a smorgasbord of Blu-ray movies for retailers in September (some as low as $11), meaning you should see the them slide at least a couple of bucks.

No word on the complete list (it is lengthy though) or exact date, but some of the many flicks getting the cheapness are: The Shining, The Aviator, 300, and I Am Legend. Hopefully this'll push some of the other studios to lower prices as well, so Blu-ray flicks are more in line with DVD cost-wise. If there's one kind of war we love, it's a price war.
