    @Skarkroe: Moral statement. I'm hackintoshing mine now and I'm using a retail copy. My stance is that if I'm going to hackintosh, I damn well better put some money into their coffers, regardless of how much I hate some of their practices.

    @kernel panic: You should be able to. You'll also want to upgrade your RAM from 1GB to 2GB. I have a 2GB stick of Geil RAM in mine that works great and is cheaper than Crucial or other explicitly Mac compatible RAM. Snow Leopard is far nicer than XP. It takes longer to boot, but feels more responsive. Of course, now I have to completely relearn OS X since I haven't touched it in years.

    @fourex59: Just did it. Only tools necessary were a couple of small screwdrivers and some pliers, but you have to be comfortable completely disassembling a netbook. #dellmini10vhackintosh

    How about a guide to doing this on a regular PC laptop? I'd like a Mac laptop that can run Photoshop and HD video. But I don't have $999.

    Any suggestions or links? (yeah I know how to Google but it seems like this is a complicated and perilous process).

    @twophrasebark: The previous gen Inspiron 1525 (with Intel X3100 graphics as the base graphics chip) is a beautiful machine for this, but the current gen doesn't run, at least with the Intel integrated graphics (4500MHD failz).

    @twophrasebark: No problem. I used the blog at [macyourpc.com], which provides a step-by-step guide to setting it up (not my blog, just a great website). Make SURE it's got the X3100 graphics card.

    A couple of things ;)

    1. It is actually *MyDellMini* (MyDellMini.com forums are the "home" of NetbookBootMaker and NetbookInstaller... and now NetbookCD)

    2. meklort is the actual developer, I am merely a messenger at this point ("community manager", if you will). I create announcements on MDM forums and communicate with meklort on a regular basis about wants, needs, bugs. Check out meklort's blog at meklort.com (he is also a member on the forums)

    3. The Google Code project page : [code.google.com]

    4. The source for this entire guide is osx.mechdrew.com (where the original mechdrew guides are maintained)

    All credit goes to meklort and the wonderful community at MyDellMini. If you find this guide to be useful, I would consider dropping by MDM to show your appreciation and you may learn something new while you are there. #dellmini10vhackintosh

    The BoingBoing blog list has "Sleep" marked as a potential problem with the 10v, but you said it worked fine without any additional hacks.

    Just want to confirm "Sleep" does work?

    Also, thanks for the great guide. Hacking mine tomorrow.

    Just got done sliming Snow (put it on a Nickelodeon Edition 10v!). Didn't have anything better to do tonight...went to BB but they didn't have one, but WM had the Nick one. You can now commence laughing :)

    Worked perfect. Had to flash the Bios to A04. Entire process took about 3 hours. The touchpad kext worked poorly on mine, so I put the original back in (I used the most current NetbookMaker, I wonder if that one is the best), and it worked better that way.

    I did this to a Mini 9 several months ago. The keyboard on the 10v works much better.

    Just got on to say thanks to John for posting this, and kudos to all the people who worked hard on this project and continue to do so. #dellmini10vhackintosh

    I prefer something a bit more terminal friendly. Might try this if you didn't need to have an actual Mac just to format a flash drive. Does OSX run in VMs? #dellmini10vhackintosh

    gizmodo, your saturday guides have been good, even though sometimes i disagree on talking of the topic, osx86, usenet, etc. but it probably does appeal to the users.

    Also you spelled ".kext" ".kept"

    also i hate you gizmodo for rubbing in how much better the 10v is, as i sit typing on my mini 9

    lastly the guide is the same for the mini 9, except the trackpad driver.

    ok i lied, one more comment, thanks gizmodo for posting the real way! not pystar! give a hand and maybe a donation to the real devs!
