Thanks, Giz. I bought one today, and plan to put legal OSX on it. Got the "Stickers 2" casing, 2 GB of RAM, and 32GB SSD, along with Bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel camera. I feel great.

i fell prey and ordered one. However, when all was said and done, it was $380. Damn 32GB SSD added an extra $100, plus the 1.3mp webcam, plus bluetooth.

then shipping and fucking NY taxes.

oh well.

So I'm just waiting to click the "Add to Cart" button. The upgrade from 512 ram to 2GB @ 533 MHz is $75. BUT, on Dell's own site, they sell the mini 9 2GB module @ 800 MHz for only $29.99.

It's currently out of stock, but what the eff? [accessories.us.dell.com]

I just had to send mine back cause of a bad Mainboard, since there was a really loud clicking noise in it.

Should get it back tomorrow, then i can throw my 32gb RunCore SSD back in it to use OSX. 2gb of RAM, only $20 delivered from Newegg... It works well other than that little mainboard issue. Boots up so much faster than my friends $2500 macbook, burns his ass :)

I picked one of these (32GB SSD, Bluetooth added) up the last time this deal came around. I have not regretted it.

On a related note, 2GB of RAM for this puppy is about $13 at newegg. And, since a RAM upgrade only requires the removal of 2 screws, it's an opportunity to save some of the initial purchase price.

For those wondering:

Ubuntu as installed takes about 2.5GB.

512MB of RAM is strangely adequate, an upgrade would be welcomed. *for Ubuntu

Getting about 4hrs of battery life, predominately static web browsing.

Now, off to order another one.

Out of curiosity, what do you use these for? Are they really meant to only access the web and email? Are they beefy enough to use as a net-enabled media center (HULU on my TV)?

@winshape: Well, if you are a student, like me, they are useful for taking notes, writing papers, doing group work, browsing the internet, and email. I was lucky today to be able to find a computer in the library and it would be nice to be able to get this so I don't have to worry about trying to find a computer; unfortunately, new car + fewer hours at work during school= no computer for me. I could probably swing the $200, but I'm already cutting back as it is and this won't help on the cutting back department. Other than that, I've also had people buy netbooks from me that like to write since you never know when you are going to get an inspiration for something and just need to write it down. If they are anything like me, typing is much faster than handwriting, and much more likely to be legible.

My Mini 9 has admirably survived all my modding to become a really great daily driver.

I have multiple wireless connections and wouldn't dream of going to work without it.

I started with a 16gb SSD though, and don't thing I'd want anything less.

I currently have a 32gb RunCore SSD that gives a real performance boost along with the extra space, as well as 2GB of some decent RAM and Windows XP Pro.

If you want to build one up this would be a decent core system, but it can surely work as-is for the basic basics.

It's a great netboo...errrrr mini notebook. ;)

word processor+ portable (no backpack required) + 5 to 6 hours battery (6 cell and mods) + under 500$ = only a netbook.
