D-Link DSM-750 Media Center Extender 2.0 in the Wild

Like the Linksys leaked today, all the new extender hardware is coming out of the woodwork, and aside from the updated MCE interface, it's interesting to see what each manufacturer is bringing to the table. On top of dual channel N support, this box has an HDMI and component output, ethernet, and a USB port for media playback. The box'll also hit up uPNP and WMP 11 sources and cost a hefty bit of cheddar — $350. Um, isn't that the price of an Xbox 360 that can do the MCE extension (minus new codecs), download HD movies to its HDD, plus play a whole lot of awesome games? This has to be less than $200 to work, I'd say.

D-Link DIR-660 Limited Edition 802.11n Router Reviewed (Verdict: Good Looking, Great Speeds, Lousy Range)

D-Link's all white DIR-660 Limited Edition Wireless N router looks great on the outside, and performs decently on the...outside. There's MIMO, which is fantastic, along with an OLED display on the top for status updates, but an old Netgear G router i4u tested with had better range than the 660 even in N mode. Speeds were great, but you give up range for throughput. Only good if you've got a tiny apartment, or you really love OLED displays you can only read from a few feet away. [i4u]

Do you have a problem with icky gadgets in your house? As a Giz reader, you'd be unlikely to judge a router for looking router-ish, but just in case you are the type of closet geek that likes wires to be threaded and not seen, here's a 802.11 b/g router that looks like a smoke detector. I'd like to say this is cute, but thats it. More »

iPhoneyGate: Dlink VOIP Phone Config'd To "LinksysSucks"

Rivalries are entertaining to watch. You've got Pepsi and Coke, Paris and Lindsay, and apparently there's one between networking giants Dlink and Linksys, the latter being infamous for iPhoneyGate. Yahoo Tech's Chris Null received a reviewable engineering sample of DLink's revolutionary GSM/VOIP combo cellphone two days after the whole iPhoneyGate scandal went down, and the SSID was set to "LinksysSucks." (Click the image.) This message makes sense, if you consider the contrasting engineering culture of the two networking companies. And that this phone is way more functional than the Linksys iPhone.
