    As a college professor I can tell you that the number one excuse on my campus is the ever-believable "someone stole my USB memory stick in the Tech Center and I had to start all over".


    I like to think that it's a cascading effect. One was stolen, so that student stole the next one to finish his homework, then that forced the next person to steal one...


    Now there's evidently an epidemic of stealing $12 memory sticks. Or a lot of lazy students.

    In one of my distance learning classes we had to turn our homework in to the internet dropbox thus supposedly removing any chance for any of the physically related excuses...


    Funny enough; my neighbors dog actually ate through the cable linking my cable, phone, and internet thus I could have honestly used the "my neighbors dog ate it" excuse. Of course I was not in any classes when that happened so that chance has passed me by. Not to mention at the time the situation was not that funny at all, in fact I still bear a bit of animosity towards that dog.

    To get out of a assignment that was mandatory to get turned in by a certain date, which I missed due to many late hours playing Escape Velocity, I installed a extension on my powerbook which made all the letters and words appear onscreen backwards and told my Prof I had a virus. It got me a week extension. Once.

    First of all, my dog DID eat my spelling homework in second grade. She ate half of my vocabulary list (printed on a ditto - that's how old I am); on the other half, my mom wrote a note to Mr. LeBossier explaining that yes, my dog ate my homework.


    Second, I am going to blame the dog on the repeated removal of the "iPhone affair" story.


    Third, for all of you teachers and would-be teachers, do a good job and your students may remember your name lovingly after more than a quarter-century (see Point I)
